474 S Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
My volunteer women's Python development group is hosting a low-cost programming workshop in Pasadena, designed for absolute beginners. Please spread the word to anyone who wants to learn to program in a friendly environment! Learn more details and sign up here: http://pyladies.eventbrite.com/
Our goal is to increase the diversity of the Los Angeles Python community, which in turn will increase diversity throughout the software industry. While men are also invited to take the class, they are asked as a condition of attendance to come with a woman who is also interested in learning to program.

The price for the all-day workshop is $25 per person (plus the Eventbrite ticketing fee of less than $3) and covers the actual cost of breakfast/lunch. The class will be taught using material based on Zed Shaw's "Learn Python the Hard Way."

PS The workshop is on the same day as the Pasadena Marathon -- we've included alternate directions at the bottom of the Eventbrite page to help you avoid possible street closures that morning.

That sounds great. Good luck, esther!

That said, I really was hoping Beginner's Python Workshop would be something else entirely.

Thanks, mykescipark! Also: ha!

Anyone who signs up (on Eventbrite) should get an email from the Pyladies around Thursday; feel free to MeMail me if you don't. Can't wait to see you guys on Sunday!

I'm nowhere near, and I'm not a woman, but I just want to say, this is awesome! Python is a language that I put away and re-learn every three months, but every time I do, I enjoy it! (Unlike when I do the same thing with Perl.)

There was certainly plenty of both to go around, thanks to Random Cupcake-Bringing Guy! Many thanks to the two MeFites (at least, the two I know of) for coming, I'll definitely post events like this here in the future.
