If you can make the movie but not the conversation after, or vice-versa, please know that's cool.

I’d love to see Rear Window! But there are lots of other great ideas here as well.

Oh and I’ve always wanted to go to Cinema Under the Stars and I’ve never gotten around to it!

I'd be down to see Goldfinch or Ad Astra!

Like exceptinsects, Cinema Under the Stars has been on my list for a good while, and I'd like to see Ad Astra on the big screen (the cinematography and visual effects are getting a lot of press).

Hey, chickadees. This post has been open for a week; I'm going to set it for the Saturday, September 14th, 8 p.m. showing of North by Northwest at Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills.

Tickets are cash or check at the door. The theater's reservation system opens to non-members on Wednesday, and allows holds on four seats. As the place only has 62 seats, if we get a head count by mid-week I can reserve adjacent seats.

[Checking for sit-down dessert/coffee-type places nearby, open after the movie lets out at about 20 minutes to 10; right now the Starbuck's around the corner is in the lead.]

In a few weeks, I'll post a follow-up IRL for Ad Astra.

I'm out of town this weekend but hopefully I can make it next time!

Google Maps shows that the Starbucks closes at 8:30 PM. Also, indoor seating amounts to four tables and a counter, often occupied by hardy pioneer types. Perhaps the Donut Star down the block? Open till midnight.

Oh, Donut Star looks enticing, Performing Without Annette, and I bet their hot chocolate won't taste like burnt coffee.

Donut Star is one of the thousands of Cambodian-owned donut shops brought into existence in Southern California by Ted Ngoy in the 1980s. They don't have exotic flavors but they do an excellent cake donut and an excellent yeast donut, with the usual variations thereof.

Cool! Adding to above-the-fold update line.

Yay, artlung! I made a reservation to hold a single seat yesterday morning, when I was the only name listed under 'attending.' Now the system isn't letting me amend that.

Please consider creating a free account at the site, if you'd like to ensure two seats together for you and your guest; this really is a small venue, and seating options vary. It's still pay cash or check at the door, with this caveat from the info page:

"CANCELLATION POLICY: Reservations may be cancelled online or by calling the theater UP TO 30 MINUTES before showtime. Credit cards will be CHARGED for No-shows and late cancellations.

"NO SHOWS your credit/debit card will be charged the admission price and reservation fees for seats reserved."

Lastly:

"DOORS OPEN at 6pm, film begins at 8pm Spring and Fall."

Okay Iris - made an account and got reservations for me and a guest. We'll be there!

I think it might just be me and my girlfriend and Iris but I'll be there at 7:30 or so. Donuts after NxNW!

Hey! Heading out, there in about 25. Blue cardigan, subtle, secret-agenty iris pin, "Frampton Comes Alive" hair.

It was lovely meeting you both! Thanks for coming out.

[And Performing Without Annette, great call on Donut Star -- low-key, nice selection, and perfect for good conversation. Thanks for the rec; hope to meet you one of these days.]
