Sun January 28 at 3:30 PM, Burger Tap & Shake - Foggy Bottom
The Avenue, Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC, USA (Map & Directions)
Hey DC Mefites! Sauce Trough and I are going to be in town at the end of the month and we'd love to hang out. Is anyone up for a meetup the weekend of the 27th? We'll be staying just north of the National Mall, but we're definitely up for exploring other parts of the city, if another locale works better for folks. UPDATE: Time and venue selected: Burger Tap & Shake - Foggy Bottom Sunday, January 28, 3:30 pm

This is so exciting! I'm really glad you'll be in town! What sort of meetup most appeals to you? Daytime meal? Daytime activity (e.g. museum)? Evening meal? Bar?

For anyone who doesn't know, which is almost certainly basically everyone, palmcorder_yajna was one of the best parts of the Pretty Little Liars threads back before the show TURNED ON US.

I'm free all that weekend and always happy to meet visiting MeFites!

I should be able to do Friday night or any time Sunday, so if that works for others, I’m in!

A meal would get best for us, I think, ideally someplace that isn't super-noisy. Our schedule is extremely fluid at the moment, so both day and evening are possibilities. Maybe Sunday afternoon?

Ok, awesome. Does anyone have any ideas about a venue? A place with food that's kid-friendly and not overwhelmingly noisy that's open on Sunday afternoons?

That's definitely doable! We could go to that burger place we've been for a couple of meetups or...really anywhere? Do either of you have any dietary restrictions?

Nope, we're pretty omnivorous, and burgers sound great!

I'm in no way tied to the burger place, or any burger place, and don't know where it is, but I think we should finalize this so we can update the event and make sure it actually happens!

P.S. sorry we will miss you duffell! Your parents' gain is our loss.

I think the usual burger place is Good Stuff Eatery in Capitol Hill, right?
posted by capricorn at 1:35 PM on January 23, 2018

Good Stuff CH is closed Sundays.

Bummer about the lack of Sunday hours for Good Stuff, but yes. As soon as we identify a venue that isn't closed on Sunday afternoon, I'll finalize the event. Mr. Palmcorder and I are DC newbies, so we have no idea what's good. Any other ideas, local folks?

I haven't actually been to this place, but it has good reviews and seems to fit the description of burgers + near the Mall + kid friendly + open on Sunday? Burger Tap + Shake is a little further out but would also meet requirements.

Either of those look good to me! I think our best bet is to try to figure out when it will be the least crowded since we'll be a big group.

Google Maps says b is most crowded around noon-2 on Sundays. BTS is pretty much always quiet on weekend afternoons in my experience (while the student crowd is still sleeping in, I guess?)

Later afternoon is great for us so we can let the kraken sleep for as long as possible! palmcorder_yajna, does like threeish or three thirty sound okay to you?
posted by Mrs. Pterodactyl at 11:37 AM on January 24, 2018

Yes. Let's say 3:30, and let's go with BTS, since it's likely to be relatively quiet on Sunday afternoons! Yay! I'll finalize the event!

Ok, I'm finalizing the event. We've settled on the BTS location in Foggy Bottom, right? If I'm confused about that, let me know and I'll switch it over.

Yay! Yep, that's the one I meant - the Tenleytown one is probably a little more annoying to get to from the mall. Excited to meet you!

Hello, Mr. Palmcorder here. Last night p_y and I saw The Very Last Days Of The First Colored Circus on a whim. It was glorious, triumphant and heartbreaking. It's playing thru Sunday.

Highly recommended, tho take heed of content warnings for sexual assault and hella racism.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sauce Trough.

Sorry to say I will have to miss out on the meet up because work. Have a great time, folks!

Ok, we're here! We got a six-top table in the middle of the room. I'm a dark-haired, middle-aged woman with a black hoodie and glasses. Sauce Trough has a red beard, and a Porg shirt.
