Thu October 27 at 7:30 PM, ***[Pls. Email for Direx!]***
119 Macdougal St, New York, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
This time out, we'll be chatting about the challenges inherent in "the unalienable right to pursue happiness," whether unhappiness is mostly caused by the gap between who we are and who we want to be, and whether it's really happiness we lack when we feel unhappy. Please join us for drinks and conversation at the next Salon in Brooklyn, on October 27, 2016 at 7:30 PM. (Note new date)
The Declaration of Independence declared that we have the "unalienable right to pursue happiness." How has that sentiment shaped American culture, and what have its effects been? For most, happiness is a fleeting sensation rather than an on-going state, and significant numbers seem to rarely attain it. Have we taken a metaphorical phrase too literally? When is the pursuit of happiness immoral? What do we do if it's impossible to overcome certain obstacles to happiness? And, really, is happiness the best we can dream up?

Feeling thoughtful? No plans for the 27th? Please email me at NewSalonNYC@gmail.com for an invite and directions to the meeting, as well as a list of the articles for the upcoming Salon. If we haven't met before, please tell me some tidbit about yourself in your note. If you can't attend this session, but would like to be on the Master List to keep up on future Salons, let me know when you write. Otherwise please make clear if you're RSVPing for this time.

For those new to Salons, it's worth saying that our version is fairly loose in structure. Though we mostly tend to keep on topic, we don't always. And although conversation is usually based on the articles, not everyone reads them. So whether you're bold and chatty or shy and quiet or some mixture of the two, just drop me a line to get involved. We're a friendly bunch, always on the look out for more clever Mefites and their friends.

Hope to see you there!

I believe I will try to make this! It conflicts with dance class, though, and dance class is generally the one thing that provides me any sanity whatsoever :(
