Movie meetup

Sat October 10 at 7:15 PM, AMC Theater
850 Rosedale Shopping Center, Roseville, MN, USA (Map & Directions)
Let's have a movie meetup. Proposed movie: The Martian.
The Martian is the new Ridley Scott movie (trailer here) based on the book by Andy Weir. It stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig and a bunch of other people and opens on October 2nd. I propose we go see it the following weekend on Saturday, October 10th. I was thinking it would be good to see the earlier showing (around 5-5:30) and then go grab a bite to eat nearby afterwards. The Rosedale AMC theater would probably be central-ish to both Mpls and St. Paul so I say we go there.

I know it's a little early to be posting this, but I'm going to try to read the book before seeing it, and thought I'd put this up in case anyone else wanted to do the same.

I probably won't have time to read the book but I probably will be up for watching the movie! (depending on how my October is going)

Yes! Thanks for following up on this.

I won't be reading the book first, but I'm excited to hear how they compared at dinner afterwards.

I might be in! I'm reading the book now & I'm not sure if I can make the movie, but I'd like to do dinner, for sure.

If I'm in town I'll be in. And the book is a quick read -- it's Watley's diary entries interspersed with goings-on at NASA. It's pretty easy to knock of over the course of a couple days.

Yep, I'm just starting the book and it seems like a quick read, though there are no guarantees I'll finish it either. I'll move this over to confirmed and as we get closer to the date, I'll post the movie time.

(Also, if there are any car-free people around the cities who are interested in attending and would like a lift, let me know. I live in Minneapolis and am more than happy to pick people up)

I'm going to be out of town, but I went from buying to finishing the book in two days, so it's definitely possible.

FWIW, I think it'll make a better movie than it did a book, but it's still a fun read. If anyone wants to borrow my copy, MeMail me.

Also please MeMail me if you want to see it before / again. I'm free any evening but the 9th and 10th. ;)

I have something going on that afternoon which is scheduled to end right around 5, so movie attendance might be iffy. I'd love to have dinner, though!

Okay, I've checked the times and weirdly, they don't have the times scheduled past Wednesday. The times on Wednesday are 4:15 and 6:15 for the 3D showing and 5pm for the regular showing. I'm not sure if the times will change for the weekend (I'll check back on Wednesday), but does anyone have a preference for regular or 3D?

I'll be there -- and am bringing a friend, whom I'm borrowing the book from too! I generally prefer 2D to 3D, but I will be much happier with the later showing if it means that heurtebise will be able join us.

Movie times are up on the site.

3D is 4pm, 4:45pm, 7:15pm, 8:00pm

2D is 2:00pm, 5:15pm, 8:30pm

I need to switch to a maybe on this because I ended up double booking the day. I'll keep an eye on what time you guys choose (I wouldn't really care about 2D/3D regardless) and try to make it if I can (now that I live only 2.5 miles away).

Does anyone have a preference on time? I don't have a preference for 2D or 3D but I don't want to pick something earlier or later than people would like. I was kind of counting on them keeping the 6:15 showing as they've done every other day since it's opened. Grrr

Selfish, flakey me would prefer the latest possible showing, because the later it is, the more likely that I'll be able to make it.

Sensible me says that the 5:15 show probably makes the most sense if people want to have dinner afterwards (and 2D is cheaper).

Okay, I'll set it at 7.15.

Any time works for us, so 7:15 is good! See you then!

Are we doing dinner before or after, or just the movie?

I can do 7:15!

I think I am probably coming (plus spouse)? How do we identify the group? I will wear my yarntheory T-shirt.

I didn't get far into the book but am still interested in seeing the movie. Do we need to buy tickets in advance? I suppose if the 7:15 sells out we can hang out until the 8:00 showing.

Granite City is pretty good if people want to get food before/after the movie. Not sure what else is in and around Rosedale these days.

There's a bunch of places around there. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make dinner beforehand but am totally up for going afterward if anyone wants to. I plan on being at the theater maybe around 6:45 just to be early enough to get tickets (in case it sells out). I can pick up tickets for anyone who will be there - just leave a comment here if you'd like me to grab one for you.

I am wearing a green and black striped cardigan and a green scarf. See you all in a few.

I got here a little early - I am standing inside entrance next to the Paranormal Activity sign. The line for tickets is not too long...

I am less than 5 minutes away. Wearing knee length black coat, jeans and knee high black boots

Leaving downtown Minneapolis now. Should be there right around official start time.

We just parked. I'm in a bluish-green t-shirt and jeans.

We've got two partial rows near the front right

Flannery culp, if you come we have a seat for you. Walk into the theater, straight across the main aisle to the other side and we're in the front row (behind the aisle on your right). I'll keep an eye out for you!

That was fun, and The Martian is a really enjoyable movie! I was glad to see all of you, and I'd love to do it again!

I had so much fun and the movie was FANTASTIC! Thank you everyone for coming, it was great meeting those I haven't met before! I'm looking forward to our monthly movie club!

oh, and I think that Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak has opened. If there's anyone like me who is very impatient and would like to go and see it in the next couple of weeks, let me know. I am DYING to see it!

Sorry guys, last minute family stuff - it ended up being kind of a hectic weekend. If anyone wants to see it again (or something else, hi triggerfinger) let me know.
