East Bay Beer Tasting.

Sat January 31 at 4:00 PM, ØL BEERCAFE & BOTTLE SHOP
1541 Giammona Drive, Walnut Creek, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
So, I made some beer, it turned out good, and I like to share. I'm calling it TCP-IPA, and the recipe is here. Thing is, I don't get out that much, at least close to home, so I don't know a good venue for this kind of thing. I was thinking of asking Øl in Walnut Creek if I could bring some of my own - but I'd be open to other suggestions of a good place and time (in January) UPDATE: Got a place. Details inside

In, but don't have any suggestions -- we tend to eat out rather than drink out.

This is me putting in a thing so this turns up in my recent activity - I do not currently have a suggestion! Happy new year!

I, too, am putting in a thing.

I don't know what my January is going to be like, and I know nothing about beer, but I just want to hat-tip the name.

That is such a deliciously nerdy name that the beer must be delicious, too. I'm in, especially since I missed the last Walnut Creek meetup, and will ponder locations. Walnut Creek only? Or is there an appropriate radius? I wish I had a giant house to invite everyone over! Alas, I do not.

I am interested in this depending on time and place. Next weekend and the weekend after are spoken for, but past that I would like to come.

I like beer and mefites! I will keep an eye on this thread.

The only other thing I can think of is Heather Farms - but in January, even in California, it would be too chilly, I would think.

I don't know of any places that allow you to bring in booze, because that's a big money maker for establishments and they want you to buy their drinks; would suggest a beer swap at the meet, but placing them in our bags/backpacks, and then trying later at home.

This is less immediate and satisfying for a craft brewer looking for feedback, however, we could tweet or memail you at a later date once we've cracked the bottles.

With that in mind, would you mind suggestions for venues?

Yes, totally open to suggestions. Also, what day of the week is good for folks?

Yeah, the bring-your-own is going to be tricky; urbanspoon has only Sargam tagged as BYOB, but as it also has it wrongly tagged "cash only" and "waterfront" I don't really trust that much.

Haven't been to Øl, certainly curious about it; they don't do food, but there's pizza across the street.

Pyramid Alehouse? Haven't been for a while. Reasonable beer, reasonable food, big enough that we could commandeer a table.

We like Kanishka's for food and beer, but it's quite small and quite spendy.
(Sunol Ridge looks similar, haven't been yet: great beers on tap, but food is high-end-even-for-WC expensive.)

Fond of The Counter because it has Hella Hoppy on tap -- a great local IPA -- but it tends to get busy in the evenings so maybe not great for camping out a table.

"Appropriate radius" might stretch to Concord? EJ Phair, The Pig and The Pickle, The Hop Grenade all walkable from BART.

Weekends are better for me as I commute to Milpitas and offset my day to travel after the morning/evening peak. I could easily rejig to make it home earlier for a weekday evening, though.

Just chiming in that weekends are better.

I'm itching to arrange a meetup myself so if you could move this one forward I'd appreciate it. I don't want to post a meetup until we've had yours.

(That sounded a bit curt, I didn't mean it to...)

I like the places in Concord - I'll checkout Hop Grenade and E.J. Phair, and post something later today. Apologies for dragging this out - my schedule's been full of docs and PTs lately.

Øl said as long as we buy some from them, (and I bring one of mine for them) I should be fine to provide my own for tasting. So I'm setting a date and place:

Cool! We were there on Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago; a good time to camp out a table.

I am car-free and this is super close to the Bart station. Hope to make it and thanks for organising it in any case. Yay!

Tap list. They had North Coast Angel's Share on earlier in the week, but looks like it ran out on Friday.

I'm not making it out to WC today, but I had loads of fun at the last meet up out there, so I'll keep my eye out for the next one! Hope you're all having fun!

I can confirm that the TCP-IPA is pretty damn good. Makes me want to brew.

I like those but I'd want an AskMe color or a Blue (old classic blue) t-shirt.

This one was a great meetup; I really enjoyed this one, don't know why because I was feeling lethargic today. Was it the pizza? Was it the Costco/Trader Joe's/Whole Foods/Sprouts/Lundardi's talk? Was it the fact that I didn't get blotto like at the last event? WHO'S TO SAY.

The name game is always fun, isn't it?

ALSO FOR BRINGING BEER. Because beer. Also because custom label.

I've really got to stop prevaricating and at least brew a gallon batch; brewing beer's like proofing bread, a surprising reminder that life prevails at much smaller scales than you.

Oh yeah - I really enjoyed bashos_frog's TCP-IPA - very nice session beer. Thank you for being so generous!

The beer was great! Floor ate like a fourth if it after opening, though.

Thanks for showing me around a bit afterwards too, jcifa and whadk! Okay, maybe I should not use those acronyms
