Looks like the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who is at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 for us on the west coast. This could be an entertaining start to a potluck/game day. Or maybe some soapmaking for holiday gifts. Whatever strikes the fancy of whoever turns up.
Huh! Yeah, that would be cool. But we don't have BBC America either! I'm pretty sure I already know the answer is no, but is there a way to get like a one-day pass to a channel? Or maybe is it being... streamed for pay over the internet or xbox or amazon or something?

It might be possible for someone with pay TV to add a BBC America package for a month in order to get this.
Just an idea for consideration.
I'll be watching football.

It will be on the big screen at Lloyd Center: http://www.fathomevents.com/#!doctor-who-the-day-of-the-doctor in 3D if anyone wants to see it on the big screen and beers somewhere afterwards.

Turns out aniola and I can have a few folks over here and our place seems to have BBC America. Looks like it'll be on at 11:50. BYOSnax - we'll have some but not enough to feed a crowd.

Tell me more about this soapmaking idea.
(I would have to leave at 2:30 or so, but canning with you people was fun and soapmaking seems like a good idea that I know nothing about).

More about this soapmaking idea:
If you have to leave at 2:30, we'll just get a lot done during commercials. But that wouldn't be too hard. It's just a matter of plugging numbers into a saponification calculator and then precisely weighing lye, water, and oil. And then lots of stirring. Eventually it hits "trace" which means it gets thick enough to pour into a mold, which is just any plastic container from the recycle bin. Then it sits for a week or two and hardens on its own, and then it's soap!
Maybe bring some olive oil if you feel like it (it makes the best soap and we already have cooking oil to cut it and enough coconut oil for lather) and/or an empty soda bottle to take some home (it only partially hardens in the bottle, but then you can cut the bottle off and let the loaf harden the rest of the way. We have pretty much everything: lye, water, some oil, a scale, non-metal mixing bowls, and non-metal spoons.
Also we have soap from a batch a couple weeks ago, so we can make like the cooks on TV ("here's how you make it. then you put it in the oven for an hour and gee we already did that; it comes out like THIS!") and send you off with some from that previous batch.

You know what? I'm so behind on Dr. Who that this is probably going to have spoilers- I think I should avoid watching it for now. But I'd be up for a soapmaking day sometime in the future!

Lets do soap making another day, then, since I have time constraints and Secretariat wants to be unspoiled for the show. Ok?

Soap another day, then! But we'll still be here watching the Day of the Doctor and anyone is welcome to drop by. There will still be buttered popcorn, and probably Cybermen chocolates. With their legs broken off, because there's a reason the chocolate mold was at the thrift store.

Oh shoot, the tardis dress made an appearance? Vespabelle, does that mean your daughter was there, or does it fit both of you? (amazing) Or does your household have two tardis dresses?! (also amazing)
I did end up watching the 2011 Christmas Dr. Who special last night, in honor of the day of the doctor- I guess I missed noticing that was available on Netflix. 2011. Seriously, that's the most recent thing available to me? :(

Thank you so much for having us over!
The Tardis dress does not fit me. I am going to dress as the 9.5th (or whatever he was) Doctor someday because he had some pretty cool boots!
