Lunch w/ MeFites @ Deschutes PDX

Tue March 13 at 11:45 AM, Deschutes Brewery
210 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
Are any Portland MeFites interested in a lunch meetup with other MeFites?
For those who are up for a lunch meetup, the location is Deschutes Public House.

Per Secretariat's suggestion, I have set the time for 11:45 am so that we can secure a few tables.

Starting next week, I'm going to be off on Tuesdays. I also enjoy lunch.

Man, I just realized I totally spelled your name wrong. Now I feel kind of dickish.

It's okay. Don't tell anyone, but it's not my real name.

WHAT

Now there are fake names?! Man, I am never going to get all these names straight.

It now occurs to me that Nick is probably the only non-mod mefite who has had access to my full real name, considering he had my ID in his possession for several days.

Operation Uncover Maqsarian's Identity is now in effect.

Team Bravo GO GO GO (...to lunch?!)

I hardly ever go downtown to hang out and thus have no idea about downtown places! Deschutes works for me.

And only my phone remembers that information....

maqsarian, I think you told us your true name once after a meetup...and now we possess your soul.

But seriously, you totally told us your given name and not just the name you go by.

Man, it's starting to get all Rumpelstiltskiny up in here. If I could spin straw into gold, though, I could always go to meetups, as I'd never have to work again.

Deschutes is cool, although I sort of wish I could make Gustav's; I haven't been there in ages.

I am interested in a downtown lunch, and I'll return with lunch place ideas!

Ok, how many people are we? Some of these are smallish, but if we're 4-5 people it wouldn't matter.

Some downtownish places I have eaten at, and enjoyed, in alpha order:

Al-Amir
Big Town Hero (ok, maybe the ambiance isn't that great for hanging out. My usual location is 1037 SW Morrison
Daily Cafe
Habibi 1012 SW Morrison is the one I've been to, but it looks like there is a 221 SW Pine location too
Hawaiian Time I know I've eaten at this location, but I'm not sure if it was this current restaurant.
Hush Hush This is probably too small, but I felt like I should mention it because it's yummy.
India House Ok, I've never eaten here because I'm shy of spicy food, but as I hear it they have a good lunch buffet and I'm willing to try it.
Kenny and Zukes
Laughing Planet (I was thinking of the Ecotrust location, but apparently there's a downtown location too?)
Mio Sushi (Pearl location 1317 NW Hoyt)
Peem Kaew
Ringlers
Rogue 1339 NW Flanders, although now I guess there's one at 1717 SW Park Ave too? Either could work.

I can suggest more places with guidance- cheaper? More expensive? Bigger or smaller? What part of downtown?

Also, Deschutes is fine too. The location is great for me, but I've never had any really fantastic food there. (Well, except for the pretzel and cheese. And that's just because it's a pretzel.) I have had some pretty mediocre food though!

I'm happy to provide a review of any of those. But I'll only use three letter words (ala mad ape den).

I'm definitely up for Habibi.
Not familiar with the others (except Big Town Hero).

Decshutes is probably the most expensive I'd want to go. You can pretty easily hit $20 per person which could be a bit much for lunch.
Bigger spaces could work better so we could have better selection of tables, etc. Also, just in case we get a big turnout.
Any location within walking distance of the MAX or streetcar seems ideal.

I am intrigued by the offering of 3 letter word reviews....

Santa Fe around the corner from Habibi on 10th? Santaria across from Bailey's? Karam on Oak? People's Sandwiches by the Burnside Bridge? Lorne and Dotty's in the BLM Building? That sort of disturbing Chinese place near the Chinatown Gate? I also know of a ton of places we can go when the weather is better and we can grab a bench like Bunk Sandwiches or that pie place where Velo Cafe is/was.

I think I'll set this for Deschutes at Noon on the 13th.
Sound good?
We can discuss other locations then....

I am unsure if I'll make it on the 13th, but I'll try. (I'll have been out of town for a few days so it could turn out to be a crazy work catch-up day.) I might suggest 11:45 as a time to actually meet at the place to try to ensure getting a table, since everything around here seems to get busy right around noon- but Deschutes is pretty big, maybe it's not worth worrying about.

That disturbing place near the Chinatown Gate IS disturbing (do NOT under any circumstances use the washroom), but the pork and duck are good, and that style of restaurant (Cantonese Meats) is a little rare in Portland.

I am totally here early because of bus timing, and have a nice big table for us just to the right of the entrance.

Heading over from work now- I should be there in a couple of minutes.

Oh, I invited sleepy pete but he can't make it today (in case the waitstaff is bugging you about how many more people are showing up).

Dice update: I checked for polyhedra at both Powells and Floating World Comics, but in either case the answer was...[sunglasses]...no dice.
