Dalston/Hackney meetup! Why the f not.

Ayyyy my nerrrrrds. I'm going to be visiting London—specifically Hackney/Dalston—at the end of October. Never been to England—but I'm from New England! ha ha ha ahem I'm probably gonna get hit by a car. Who's with me! Okay, that's not your thing, how about a pint or two at a local pub? I've been told by my one Brit friend to look for places that have names like "The Pig & Whistle" or "The Blue Rooster"... someplace that serves warm beer from a single tap, and has ugly food. He said it, not me. OKAY! deets inside.
I'm staying in Hackney, and my main objective will be going to Dalston to see People Like Us's three-day residency at Cafe OTO. So that's what I'm doing Friday Oct 26 and Saturday Oct 27 in the evening, and the afternoon of Sunday Oct 28. (Anyone who wishes to go, it's Sound Collage gone mad, done by some of the pioneers. I've been listening to a lot of the artists on the three bills for a few decades now, but have never once seen any of them perform live. This residency was what sparked me to finally visit the UK—or, at least the London parts.)
So! Bigger picture: I'll be in Hackney starting Thursday, October 26, and leaving on Nov 1. That leaves these following swaths of time when I'd be available for a MeFi nerdfest/meetup:
- Afternoon/Evening, Thu Oct 26
- Daytime, Fri Oct 27
- Daytime, Sat Oct 28
- Evening, Sun Oct 29
- All day Mon Oct 30 & Tue Oct 31
Mostly, I have no idea what to expect, or what's interesting around Dalston/Hackney, except for what I've read on Wikipedia or seen on a cursory 3D Googlemaps flyby. (I'll have time to do more poking around online.) Consider me clueless as to many aspects of British Life. I'm a rabid Taskmaster fan, and generally I love about half of British comedy. And I like all kinds of music—which necessarily means I like a lot of weird-ass UK music. Hence me attending this residency. And I get my news from the BBC World Service. Otherwise, I am your typical live-in-a-bubble Bostonian USAian, kinda sorta.
So, let's land on a good day/time/venue, and based on the thread, I'll lock it in sometime the week before I get there. SEEYAAAAA

You should step up your pub name expectations. As a resident alien, I still giggle at how many places are called things like "The Famous Cock" or "The Spread Eagle." Both of those will be easy to get to from where you're staying, actually.
Yeah, if I can swing the specific date and time I'd be happy to meet up.

Cool! I will try and post here fair warning if there's any specific clothing item I'll be wearing. But at the base of the face, I have a white beard.

Gidday! I'd be up for this - can't do thurs but can do the Fri/Sat/Sun eves, pick a pub* and I can trundle along. Thanks for posting and enjoy wretched Albion!

I'd recommend The Stone Cave in Dalston, lovely Turkish food in a cave! (Sort of...)

Cock Tavern is respected for beer, a solid venue.

Yeah please do! I just looked at your profile and one of your two FPPs was about 41 (aka "DJ Weird Beard")... and I listened to way too much of his stuff at one point about ten years ago, and have followed his stuff intermittently over the many years. He's definitely an outlier!
[Right now I have a ticket in asking the mods to change this IRL from "Proposed" to "Confirmed"—for whatever reason the googlemapsbot wouldn't accept as the address of the meetup, no matter how many iterations of it I tried. And it would not let me post it without a valid address. (I left out the !'s.)]

Hi 43+9 — The meetup's been set for time, Noon on Saturday at the Cock on Mare St (see above), but there may not be food, I am told, so I will wait for people to arrive, maybe while drinking a pint, and then make a gametime decision as to whether anyone wants to get lunch closeby. (If anyone shows up!)
Meantime, I am going to be at Cafe OTO's 3-day residency for People Like Us, so if you go to that, stop by and say hello! My Airbnb hosts and a guest are also going to that, as well as a couple MeFites. I'll have a black Dead Kennedys hoodie on, and a white beard. And a hipster man-bun or long hair.

Ha, that was last night, sorry I missed you! I was standing on a chair supported by a support beam so I could see above all the SRO tall people. But it was a great show and I'm looking forward to tonight's!
... I'm on my way to the Cock in a little bit to be there at noon, and I'll have a green Reykjavik sweatshirt, long hair in a red bandanna... and yeah white beards seem not to be the best unique call sign—I'll be at the OTO tonight around 7:30, but may be running a little late because there may be a bonfire happening in the back yard of this airbnb because of the lunar eclipse. Hippie Airbnb! Woop wooop (that's the sound of the fire squad)

I wasn't around over the weekend otherwise I would have dropped in. I was also surprised not to get an update notification by memail, didn't we used to get one when the venue was set? Maybe I'm imagining it.
I could possibly take a quick jaunt to Hackney this evening or tomorrow night to say hello and grab a beer.
