SXSW MeFi Meetup!

214 W 4th St, Austin, TX, USA (Map & Directions)
Jessamyn, Josh, and I will be in town for SXSW and our time is short but we'd like to do a late night Friday thing. We'll be downtown at the old timers ball previous to this (everyone is invited to that too).
Unless you consider Mulder's Big Adventure to be old. Maybe it has an old soul. That's my only real foray into the blogosphere.

Venues galore. Gingerman (first place we tried to go last year after dinner), Fado (where we ended up last year after dinner), Dog and Duck is ~13 blocks north (MeFi meetup favorite), Opal Devines, Mother Egan's (another Irish pub). There are a lot of possibilities as far as the pub/bar thing goes, which is how meetups roll in Austin.
If someone wants something with a different vibe, post up.

Is that March 11? I'll be in NOLA for a baby shower that weekend... stupid babies. If I were going, I'd vote for Fados, where I always end up in Austin.

Fado was pretty good last year - easy to get seats and not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation.

I adore Valhalla - good beer selection, friendly bartenders, weird crowd - but I'm ok with just about anything.

I'm game, although I would suggest something a little more removed from all the SXSW action. If this year's SXSW meetup is anything like last year's (that is, heavily attended), we'll want plenty of room, which may be a problem downtown.
Thai Fresh/Cafe Caffeine (both at 909 W Mary) are not too far from the action but obscure enough that we could probably find room for 20-30 Mefites. They both have a fair amount of room. Just to mention a couple of options. Perhaps the food-cart plaza at 1000 E 6th St, if the weather is good.

Yep, I've got spring break that week and will be staying in downtown Austin the whole time as I enjoy SXSW yet again. Just keep me posted as to wheres/whens, and I can probably be there.

Would any of our Austin MeFites be willing to loan out the use of a couch or corner for the evening of Friday the 11th? I'll even spot some cash for the inconvenience.

I could also use crash space one or two nights over this week. I have a friend I'm staying with, but I'd rather inconvenience her 3-4 nights, not six. Can bring maple syrup. PROD_TPSL has dibs on Friday, but if people have a spare couch for a day or two, I'd be most appreciative.

We have crash space with a bed and on the off chance that we can't spot someone (Jessamyn?) a ride back downtown, we're also on a bus line that lets off at Congress and 6th.

I fizzled out early & didn't get to talk to everyone - we've got to do this again soon. I have a sore throat from shouting over the din. SXSW is huge, these days. I forget because I normally avoid the melee, but wow. So great to see you all!

I wish I had made better effort to talk with more of you... but in social situations with large groups of people... I'm not the most graceful. Despite my inherent awkwardness, I look forward to the next Austin meet up.
Time to shake things up here in San Antonio... rustle up a meet up or two.
