Sat March 23 at 5:00 PM, Little Sheep
4718 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
Hey, San Diego. I'm flying in to visit friends (and get away from East Coast winter/spring weather) at the end of the month, and would love to meet some mefites for dinner Saturday 3/23 -- at Mongolian Hot Pot restaurant Little Sheep
(I'm picking Little Sheep instead of trying something new, as it turns out my friends haven't been back to it since my last visit, since you need at least a few people for it to be worth the visit.

Exceptinsects has provided a bunch of Convoy Street/Kearny Mesa recommendations to choose from:
*Spicy House (Szechuan) (yelp, spicyhousesandiego.com)
*Szechuan Chef (yelp, Facebook)
*Soi 30th (Thai) (yelp, soi30th.com
*Sab-e-Lee (Thai) (yelp, originalsab-e-lee.webs.com)
*Noble Chef (other Chinese) (yelp, Facebook)
*Little Sheep (Mongolian hot pot) (yelp, Facebook)
*Alforon (Lebanese) (yelp, alforon.com)

I've been to Little Sheep once before and loved it, so I'm not sure if I want to go back again or try someplace new.

Cool! If anyone feels strongly (in favor or against) any of the choices, please post. I figure we should settle on one next week to get this on the calendar, with a backup choice in case there’s a ridiculously long wait for a table when we get there and we need to switch things up last-minute.

I'd look forward to that. Never had a bad meal on Convoy.

Well, darn. I'll actually be in town that weekend, but my time will almost certainly be occupied by family/ friend obligations. Have fun!

Never had a bad meal on Convoy.

Same. It’s like a geographical TARDIS, just this stretch of seemingly strip mall/car dealership suburbia, but you go inside the restaurants and find something magical. It’s a struggle to find non-fast-foodified Chinese food near me in NJ/NY aside from dim sum, so going to Convoy Street is always a joy for when I visit my La Jolla bestie. (She may be joining the thread if her tablet cooperates, if it doesn’t, I’ll be adding a plus 2 to the attendance count.)

Sorry, my list was confusingly worded: Spicy House and Szechuan Chef are two separate things, as are Sab-E-Lee and Soi 30th! But they're all good. And Little Sheep is also always fantastic.

I hope to come but I have a big deadline coming up so I'm still a maybe.

I'm a big fan of Sab-e-Lee and Soi 30th. Spicy House and Szechuan Chef were... less than good when we went. If you guys skew towards Thai food, might I also recommend Chi Extraordinary Kitchen? I live in Los Angeles now, but other obligations keep me from visiting SD that weekend or I'd totally attend. Have fun!

Damn, I have an RP game in Poway that day, so can't get down to Convoy in time. My one monthly obligation.

Ugh, just realized I can't do this, I don't think. Sorry!

Ok, I fixed the links for Spicy House & Szechuan Chef - which of the Sab-E-Lee locations is the Convoy-adjacent address though?

Thanks for posting this! The Linda Vista Sab-E-Lee location (which is cash-only) is closest to Convoy St.

A San Diego Meetup! I'll be there unless my sister has her birthday celebration that night.

If anyone wants dessert, I recommend:
*Up2You (Yelp, Up2Youcafe.com) for brick toast/honey toast/toast box
*Somi Somi (Yelp, somisomi.com)for taiyaki with soft serve.

Ok, I want to get this on the calendar, so, I'm going to go ahead and call it for Little Sheep. I'm picking 5pm since I'm hoping going early will mean less of a wait for a table, and I'll still be on Eastern time anyway. Hope some of you can make it.

Went to lunch today at Soi 30th - very terrific. Hope to see some of you Maybes tomorrow at Little Sheep.

Well, me and my plus 2 and Performing Without Annette are seated at Little Sheep. If any of the Maybes are coming we’ll have to move to a bigger table - we’re in the front right, one table back from the window.
