Public Talk and/or Beer

Tue October 3 at 7:00 PM, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
1945 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
I'm giving a public lecture on NW Coast Archaeology at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) on October 3rd at 7.45 (This link says 7.00 but there is an AGM first, I think). It's free and open to the public. If you come, be sure to say hi. I'm also in Portland the next day (October 4) and if anyone was interested in meeting for an after-work beer that would be fun - but I'm staying near Gladstone/Jennings Lodge so don't know how feasible that is, I don't know Portland at all.

This sounds like a fascinating talk! I would love to make it, I'll see if I can.

Gladstone is technically not Portland- it's sort of a suburb. So for context, I would guess that it's not too close to where most people work, but it may be close to where some mefites live, and for others it's a little bit out of the way. I'd be tentatively interested in heading down that way for a meetup. (I'm only "tentative" because I'm trying to schedule some foot surgery sometime soon. So if that happens to fall on the day of or during the short recovery period, rather than before, I would have to cancel.)

This sounds fascinating! Thanks for sharing.

I can't do evening things on the 4th, I'm afraid. Can we take you out for a beer after your talk since you'll already be close-in?

I'll have a car with me, I'm driving down and will visit people at OU and OSU as well. So I could go where the people are, especially if it was an after their work in town thing?

janell: the 3rd is possible but I'm staying with friends and likely beers after would involve a crowd of archaeologists which would be just fine but could make conversation difficult.

Sorry, turns out cortex and I aren't going to be able to make it, my foot stuff is on Tuesday and I'll be all drugged up. Please post again next time you're down this way, or maybe we'll run into you somewhere else someday. Out of curiosity, are you visiting or meeting with people who work at Fort Vancouver? That's what comes to mind when I think local archaeology- as a layperson, that's pretty accessible. But I suppose that's a lot more modern than what it sounds like your lecture is about!

Sorry about your foot (hoof), Secretariat, and hope it all works out....

One of my friends is with OMSI so I'll probably go to the Pompeii exhibit. Other than that, I may meet up with a few friends from PSU and then I'll be doing UO and OSU visits. No real plans, this is partly a speaking trip but also a bit of time off/time away from the day to day up here.
