April movie night

Sat April 9 at 6:30 PM, Trylon Cinema
2820 E 33rd St, Minneapolis, MN, USA (Map & Directions)
It's been awhile since we've had a movie night! I propose either the 9th or the 16th of April.
This is kind of a slow movie season so I'm not sure what movies will be opening around that time (or what will still be in theaters). In the absence of any other ideas, I would propose the new, (non-Ghostbusters) Melissa McCarthy movie The Boss, which looks funny. Totally open to suggestions though.

Also propose we grab dinner ahead of time like we did last time. So meetup would be around 5-5:30, depending on the movie start time. Let me know which dates work best.

Update: Saturday, April 9th at 7pm for Sixteen Candles. I say we meet there at 6:30 to get seats together and then we can grab a bite to eat after if people are interested.

I'm not sure if it will sell out or not, but just in case, I will buy tickets online ahead of time. Could everyone let me know if you're bringing anyone with you so I know how many to buy? Thanks!

4/8/16 - UPDATE: Both shows sold out before I could get tickets! Any ideas? Shall we meet there and go and see something else at a different theater, or....?

I'm cool with whatever, but the Trylon Theater is doing back to back John Hughes movies April 9th with Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles. Figured it was worth mentioning.

Either day works for me. I'd also be willing to check out the Trylon as I haven't been yet.

What sparklemotion said. Slight preference for the 9th over the 16th.

The 9th works for me but I'm out of town on the 16th. I haven't seen any John Hughes movies, not having grown up in the US and all, so that might be fun.

Okay, let's say the 9th at the Trylon! Does anyone have a preference for which movie? I love them both but have a slight preference for Sixteen Candles.

I've actually only seen Breakfast Club, but I would be happy to see either!

I love both Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, but I have a slight preference for seeing Sixteen Candles on the big screen.

Okay, I am going to buy tickets online today or tomorrow. We have six people who have RSVP'd, so I'll buy six tickets. If I should buy any extras (or fewer) can you please let me know here or via email? Thanks!

Both shows were sold out! Backup plan?

Aw man!

Options at the usual place look kind of meh. Midnight Special is excellent but it is a complete 180 in tone from a John Hughes comedy.

The MSP film festival just started so there are 4 jillion options playing right now. Here's Saturday's schedule if anybody wants to wade through it.

I love the MSP Film Fest (and will be trying to see as many of them as possible in the coming weeks if anyone else is interested in doing the same), but none of the shows tonight look super compelling.

BUT! There are two movies showing over at the Lagoon (Uptown) that look really good. Everybody Wants Some!! has gotten good reviews and has that 80s feel we were looking forward to. It plays at 7pm. Eye in the Sky is a political thriller that shows at 7:25.

Both
have certified fresh ratings at Rotten Tomatoes. I would be okay with either one.

The Lagoon isn't that far from the Trylon, and unless everyone who RSVP'd here confirms that they've seen this, I think I might still show up at the Trylon in case someone missed this update. If everyone confirms, we can just meet at the Lagoon (I propose meeting at 6:45pm to see Everybody Wants Some!! and 7pm for Eye in the Sky).

Oh man, I totally forgot this was today! I'm going to have to flake out, sorry...

Both Everybody Wants Some and Eye in the Sky look really good. I'm happy with either movie. Also, I just texted holmesian about the change in plans.

Those both look good but it's 50-50 whether I will make it out of work in time to get there. I'll update the thread later.

I'm gonna cast a vote for Everybody Wants Some. I could use some new Linklater in my life.

I'm up for that! Meet at the Lagoon at 6:45?

Sounds like a plan!

Want me to grab three tickets so we're set come show time?
posted by holmesian at 1:29 PM on April 9, 2016

Sure, if you want to. I don't think it will sell out but better safe than sorry!
