My GF and I will be heading over to Vinyl Coffee & Wine Bar on Tuesday to give their trivia a try. We've never been before, so our knowledge comes exclusively from the fact that they advertise having trivia and this old SF Gate article. If this sounds like your bag, swing by & join the team! It ostensibly starts at eight, and ends at ten.

Whoops! I had the time off by one week. We’re going to trivia this Tuesday, not next Tuesday.

I do this sometimes. I'm not in town this week, but would be interested in doing a trivia thing with Mefites from time to time. To be honest, I don't love the Vinyl trivia scene; they don't have beer on draft, their bottles of wine are kind of pricey (at least for my taste/budget) and the trivia is pretty uneven. They have a regular guy who's pretty good, but about 1/3 of the times I've been they have someone subbing in for him, and the subs always do a kind of bad job, taking a long time, getting the scores wrong, and just asking uninteresting questions. That being said, it is pretty easy, so I would bet that a team of Mefites would win a good amount of the time.

I've been thinking about doing a trivia night sometime but I've stayed away because I'm so bad on things like knowledge on things like contemporary music...

Does anyone have any samples of some actual questions that have been asked at this venue? Just so I could see if I'd be totally out of my league???

Well, the dated question examples in the article are:
  • Which word is uttered 56 times in “Lithium” by Nirvana?
  • On which object would you find the numbers: 20, 1, 18, 4, 13 and 6 - in that order?
We don’t personally have an attachment to Vinyl, and if there’s a better spot we’d be fine to try it. We generally have a standing trivia thing on Thursdays, so that’s out.
