Tue July 29 at 7:00 PM, Tiger! Tiger!
3025 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
I'll be in town from the evening of July 28th through the afternoon of the 30th, for a day and a half meeting near Sea World. Tiger! Tiger! sounds like a nice place to hang out, drink and/or eat, if the fancy strikes you for any of those three. This could also give us time to transition to someplace else for pub trivia, if we're motivated.
NOTE: this meetup description is heavily edited from before a date and location were formally set.

I haven't booked a hotel yet, but I'm looking south of I-8 and east of I-5, as that's pretty close to my meeting.

Hey. My partner and I live a couple of miles from where you'll be and we're down to party. We'd be happy to grab you and drive to somewhere fun; walking and public transit in this town are kind of losing propositions unfortunately.

It sounds like the evening of Tuesday the 29th might be a date to shoot for? Are you into beers and stuff? We have beers here.

Yes! Beers! Stuff! With MeFites! As long as y'all don't mind making the return trip, too, I'd greatly appreciate a ride.

Hey! How about trivia on Tuesday the 29th? I play regularly on Tuesdays at two different places (North Park and Normal Heights), anyone interested?

Hello it's me again! I propose Tuesday trivia at South Park Abbey, 8pm. Teams are limited to 6 people, so depending on turnout we might end up with multiple teams - but that's OK! I usually get there around 7pm to grab a table, it fills up VERY quickly.

Fun idea! To be honest, it's been a while since I've played group trivia, and I'm afraid I'd let you down with my sieve-like brain. I've read and heard a wide variety of things, but my ability to recall it on the spot is not what it used to be (if it ever was :) ). How is the South Park Abbey scene? Really competitive? Can we also hang out and chat during the game?

It's run by Geeks Who Drink, in case you're familiar with their format. 8 rounds of 8 questions each, 2 hour game. It's pretty competitive but I feel like a team of MeFites can hold our own. I play regularly, and everyone I've ever played with has had moments to shine with some tidbit of knowledge, the content is pretty varied. And yes there are regular breaks so we can schmooze.

I leave for a week-long road trip the next morning, but I can try my best to swing by!

Filthy Light Thief, can you please change this to a for reals event instead of a proposed event? So people know this is really happening! Or did you want to try something else?

illenion, I opted to go with Tiger! Tiger!, on recommendations from The Minotaur. It's close enough to South Park Abbey that we could hang out for a bit then get to South Park Abbey by 8.

Alright guys this is coming together! My plan is to pick up filthy light thief from the vicinity of Sea World around 6:30 and we'll be walking through the door at 7 if the parking gods are feeling beneficent. We'll take it from there.

OK, The Minotaur proposed a meetup at The Soda Bar for some live music (AAN, Des Ark, and Citrus [not sure if that's a good audio link, not really sure which Citrus will be playing, but I'm sure on the other two]).

It sounds OSSUM. I want to go there.

SO ... if no one shows up (or people chime into this IRL thread and want to change venues), we're going there. I am actually pretty tempted to be a super-dick and change the venue right now, but I won't.

With all that, here's the new plan: Right. We take Pete's car, we drive over to mum's, we go in, take care of Phillip ["I'm so sorry, Phillip."], then we grab mum, we go over to Liz's place, hole up, have a nice cup of tea and wait for all this to blow over.

Sorry, let's try again. The plan is go to Tiger! Tiger!, enjoy ourselves for a bit, then head over to the Soda Bar, because the bands really won't actually start up at 8:30.

Further reasons to head to the Soda Bar: AAN live (on KEXP) and Des Ark live (not a great capture of the vocals, so here's the studio version).

I'm gonna drop by Tiger! Tiger! at 7pm for about 30 minutes to say hi, so BE THERE! (also it is super delicious, love that place)

Good to meet y'all, too! Sorry you couldn't stick around for the music, it was good fun, thanks The Minotaur and too bad you're not me!

illenion, sorry I missed you! Next time, we'll try again.
