Cambridge is kicking our ass, Portland. We need more meetups.

I was thinking we should have a game day/evening here in Portland again. Any suggestions for days/times/locales? Just cards, like that one time that devolved into cards against humanity? Board games? Which also usually devolves into cards against humanity. How do we feel about just playing cards against humanity, or do we not want to do that at all?
We could have it at our house maybe. It's pretty easy to get to by transit, bike or car but we live in Beaverton. Come see the suburbs!

Potluck snack food encouraged. We have some beer and wine but won't shun more.

Oops, it's actually Cambridge. Sorry, fixed it.

I'd like to have a CAH session that puts major emphasis on creating our own answers. But I'd be up for a regular CAH game too.

Also, I could carry 2 or possibly 3 people in my car to Beaverton from the SE side of Portland.

I am the current custodian of the Portland MetaFilter 1000 Blank White Cards deck. I never remember to bring it, but I could be prompted.

I have a generalized interest in this idea, and am a big "let's make our own cards" fan.

I'm game. (har har har) plus it gives me a good excuse to hit up Kinokuniya for needed hello kitty supplies.

1000 blank white cards would be good, or if we could get a bunch of extra CAH blanks we could redesign the game a little.

What are the chances of putting something together for Tabletop Day?
In other words, this coming Saturday?

I'm in, if it's a weekend I'm off work. Haven't been to a games day in a while - too long! Let's see, looks like I'm free the weekends of April 5/6, 13 (but not 12), or 19/20.
posted by dorey_oh at 10:25 PM on April 1, 2014

This weekend Sunday is better for me, next weekend it's Saturday. The following weekend is Easter, not that that affects my behavior.
posted by mimo at 6:10 AM on April 2, 2014

On second thought, this weekend doesn't work for me at all.
posted by mimo at 8:33 AM on April 2, 2014

Which works better - Apr 12, 13 or 20?
posted by fiercekitten at 8:04 PM on April 2, 2014

This Saturday not so good; either Sunday is ok with me at this point.
posted by Greg_Ace at 8:09 PM on April 2, 2014

12th and 13th work for me. 20th is bad for me.
posted by vespabelle at 9:04 PM on April 2, 2014

13th or 20th equally fine for me. 12th is no good.
posted by dorey_oh at 9:50 PM on April 2, 2014

April 20th Ignore Easter?
posted by nickthetourist at 11:11 PM on April 2, 2014

How about the 26th or the 27th? Or May 3rd or 4th?
posted by Greg_Ace at 12:49 AM on April 3, 2014

Apr 27 is OK for me, or maybe May.
posted by fiercekitten at 7:36 AM on April 3, 2014

Apr 27: fine; May: fine, except probably not the 4th.
posted by mimo at 8:24 AM on April 3, 2014

I have to work April 26/27. Could probably make it May 3/4 or May 10/11, but then we're getting into the known unknowns.
posted by dorey_oh at 8:04 PM on April 3, 2014

I think I'll set this for the 13th. At our house? Or does someone else have a suggestion?
posted by fiercekitten at 10:31 PM on April 3, 2014

Sounds good.

looks like you've eliminated all my best excuses...

If you want the 1000 blank white cards I have, let me know and I can drop them off with Greg if he's attending.

I've been meaning to schedule a game day, but I've been out of town. We will be there!
posted by Sibrax at 8:58 AM on April 6, 2014

Just to make sure I haven't misunderstood, is this going to be a specifically Cards Against Humanity -centric meetup, as opposed to a general Game Day meetup? I'm totally up for CAH (especially with an emphasis on coming up with our own answers), but not for a general boardgame day.
posted by Greg_Ace at 8:59 PM on April 6, 2014

Oh - and to add to the above, I can bring all the blank cards that have been included in the various CAH expansion packs I've bought; maybe Sibrax would be motivated to do the same....
posted by Greg_Ace at 9:01 PM on April 6, 2014

I imagine if we combine all of our blanks for CAH we can have a pretty wide selection.
posted by nickthetourist at 11:28 PM on April 6, 2014

Yeah, I've got tons of blanks. I also have the various expansions split out, so I think we can restrict it to just new-to-us cards pretty easily.

Is the CAH-only thing official? Should I leave the board games at home?
posted by Sibrax at 2:03 PM on April 7, 2014

Yeah, I don't know... We didn't really pin down what kind of games. How about a "card-centric" meet up, so we can play Hanabi or Illuminati or hearts or Citadels or whatever?
posted by fiercekitten at 7:29 AM on April 8, 2014

I like how everyone can play CAH together (which you can't do with other games.)
posted by vespabelle at 10:45 AM on April 8, 2014

How about we handwave it as Boy There Sure Will Be CAH but allow other card-based entertainments into the penumbra of acceptability and just let what happens happens?
posted by cortex at 11:29 AM on April 8, 2014

Gosh, I dunno - a "penumbra" sounds pretty highfalutin...
posted by Greg_Ace at 12:42 PM on April 8, 2014

I've been miserable and stoned on cold medicine for three days. I need to use my vocabulary a little just to be sure I still have it.
posted by cortex at 1:00 PM on April 8, 2014

So plan on light games and/or CAH to be played. We have a game called Hanabi we haven't been able to play yet but it seems pretty fun.
posted by fiercekitten at 10:30 PM on April 8, 2014

If all else fails, we can play a (very local) game called "I'm going to find that damned rooster, srsly wtf".

There's a rooster?
I now find myself resisting a [potentially] racist remark.

There's a bonkers macaw that lives in the house behind us. We can always play "name that tune" when he starts to sing his crazy song.

We also have "The Resistance" which is super fun, fast and easy to learn.
posted by fiercekitten at 6:19 PM on April 9, 2014

a bonkers macaw

(A) I'm not sure there's any other kind.

(B) "Bonkers McCaw" sounds like an old salty-dog sort of fellow with a loud gravely voice, who was in the Merchant Marines, wears shorts and Hawaiian shirts, chomps on a big cigar, and is constantly telling all sorts of sensational stories about his travels around the world.
posted by Greg_Ace at 7:01 PM on April 9, 2014

Ask me nicely and I'll show you all my macaw scar at the meetup.
posted by vespabelle at 12:20 PM on April 10, 2014

Had a run-in with ol' Bonkers, did ya? You're lucky to be alive - he's pretty rowdy when he gets drunk!
posted by Greg_Ace at 2:16 PM on April 10, 2014

Someone near the Lombard/Cheshire intersection has a rooster. Haven't been able to work out where exactly.
posted by geckoinpdx at 3:31 PM on April 10, 2014

I should probably mention we have 2 cats and, until recently, an indoor rabbit so if you're allergic, plan accordingly.
posted by fiercekitten at 3:40 PM on April 12, 2014

And we might need more chairs. We have enough for 9.
posted by fiercekitten at 10:42 AM on April 13, 2014

We'll bring some extra chairs.

I'm not going to make it there today, I'm in the middle of a yardwork frenzy. Considering that I generally put weeding right up there with waterboarding on my Do Not Want list, I figured I'd better take advantage of this impulse while I can and while weather permits.
posted by Greg_Ace at 1:05 PM on April 13, 2014

How long is this going on? I completely misread the start time.
posted by geckoinpdx at 4:54 PM on April 13, 2014

Oh my god I am a goof. I completely lost track of this being today.
