Cherry Blossom Festival 2013

Sat April 27 at 11:00 AM, Brooklyn Botanic Garden
990 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
This year's Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is scheduled for April 27th & 28th, 10am-6pm.
Anyone interested in taking a wander through on the Saturday? I'm hoping that the cool weather we're having so far this spring means that there will still be cherry blossoms on the trees in time for the festival, but there's always something pretty to see at the Garden, in addition to the various events they've got scheduled for the festival itself.

There are Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden Tours on Saturday 10am-noon, so, let's plan to take a tour around 11am.

This sounds lovely, and I haven't been to the Botanical Gardens yet. I'm in!

Official first blossom sighting. Should I go ahead and set the date for the Saturday to get us on the sidebar?

In all fairness, that kind of cherry flowers randomly through the winter. So I'm not sure I'd count it as a sign of impending blossomfest. That said, April 27/28 is a while from now so go ahead and start planning!

I was down in Baltimore this weekend and they have magnolias in bloom and the cherries are looking like they're coming next.

I have a wedding in the Bronx that night, but I may come for a short portion.

Shoot - gonna have to drop out, on second thought, the travel time from Brooklyn to the Bronx would be pretty prohibitive.

The blossom status map is showing that most of the trees around the pond are at peak bloom, and a few trees are post-bloom, but there are a lot at pre-bloom still, so, it looks to be on track for there to be actual blossoms at the Blossom Festival, yay.

Well, tomorrow looks to be sunny with a high of 68, and the status map is showing a mix of pre-bloom, peak bloom, and post-bloom, they seem to have timed the Cherry Blossom Festival perfectly this year.

Speaking of parents, mine are visiting so I won't be able to make it. Bah.

I'm at the Japanese garden now with my friends. We're just wandering without agenda. Taking a tour now.

Horrible phone signal here, been trying to post/refresh for ages! Still haven't found the Japanese Pond, think I'm near the Administration Building now. Will probably keep wandering for another couple of hours before I go looking for food.

Sorry for not figuring out the meeting-up logistics of the meet-up -- heading back to Manhattan now to do some erranding on the way home. Hope everyone had fun!
