Sat April 20 at 7:30 PM, Rico's Public House
200 East Main Street, Pullman, WA, USA (Map & Directions)
Eastern Washington/Palouse meetup! The Dozier-Jarvis Trio is playing live jazz (Oscar Peterson style) at the charming Rico's Pub on Sat April 20th. The Meetup is starting around 7:30. There is pub food available. The band starts around 10:00. It's cool. It's comfy. It's a jazzy Inland Northwest Meetup in a nice old pub!

I'd be up for this if it were on a Friday or Saturday night.

Cool. I think their next 2 dates are this coming weekend and then the weekend of March 23rd. i'll confirm that, and I'll get the April dates when i do.

Sounds like fun! The 23rd is out though, I'll be in Seattle. An April date would be better for me.

April is better for me, too.

I'm in for the 23rd or later.

Yay! Ok, I just talked to Rico's and after this weekend DJT are playing March 29/30 and then April 19/20. Just that one weekend in April. Is that our weekend?

Then the question becomes Friday or Saturday? And .. since the band usually comes on later (9:45-ish) maybe we want to start earlier and have some chatting and dinner time? Their traditional pub food is quite decent if you want to get dinner. What time should we plan on starting.. is 8:00 too late?

It could end up running a little late, but I expect we can find minimal accommodations for anybody too tired to drive back in the wee hours.

I'm not in for this time, but starting in the fall I will have some semi-regular trips down to Pullman. So if this becomes a thing, keep me on the list.

I say that we just declare now that April 19/20 is our weekend. That will make it easier for people who find this thread later to know when it is, rather than wondering.

Chatting and dinner before hand is good for me. We can get some socializing out of the way and then settle in to the music. 7:30-8pm starting time works for me. I'm down for a lengthy hang-out, especially if the music is good.

Tell me more about these accommodations? I know that I would probably be getting a hotel or something for that night, nothing fancy, but it IS a bit of a drive back up here, and I would want to enjoy myself a bit...

This should be a great time!

So we'll book it as Sat 4/20 @ 7:30..? One, two, ...

Hippybear, and any other travellers,
There is at least one basic motel within easy staggering distance of the pub. I'll look into it some more and share what i find.

within easy staggering distance

Ah, my reputation precedes me!

I live in somewhat further staggering distance (~20 minutes walk) and could host a person (or more than one, if some of them don't mind the floor and/or are okay with sharing a fold-out couch.)

Sorry, I was slow on this. The bad news is that it is Hemp Fest AND Mom's Weekend in Moscow. Moscow is the next (college) town over, but the ripples may be felt in vacancy rates in Pullman. The close by cheap motel is called Cougarland (the jokes write themselves) and their # is (509) 334-3535. If kagredon and the motels fill up I can probably fit any overflow in my place in Moscow.

And here is a tiny taste of the Dozier-Jarvis Trio, just starting thier 2nd set on 3/9. As almost seen from my phone.

I was wondering what on earth was going on in Pullman this weekend. Internet hotel searches are spitting out Lewiston hotels as the closest vacant rooms available. That's actually not convenient at all.

But hey, Hemp Fest! On 4/20 no less. Sounds like a fun afternoon of wandering the park and listening to music. I might travel in a bit early for it.

Totally.

Awesome. Cougar Land had a room. All reserved and everything.

So wallabear and I will be arriving around 3ish, check-in time at Cougar Land (will courtney cox be there?!?!?). After that, I'm not sure what we're doing. Definitely dinner at that excellent calzone place which all the locals are probably sick of but which is a giant treat for visitors. Other than that, see y'all at Rico's at 7:30!

I'll be wearing my MetaFilter t-shirt and am hard to miss in a crowd anyway, so if you see me there, let me know where you are. :)

Hemp Fest (17th annual) is HUGE. Highly recommended. Wallabear has my #.

Wow, what a good time. Thanks to okbye for organizing this, and to kagredon and wallabear for being there (and well as my friend Nick, who is not a MeFite... Yet... :P).

Not many photos were taken. I'm uploading the group shot I have, and maybe wallabear will upload a shot or two of the Dosier-Jarvis Trio that also got snapped.

Great company, great jazz, great beer, and surprisingly inexpensive. We will be doing this again, I think.

Yeah, that kind of worked. :) Thanks for playing, you all are awesome.

That was a really nice time. Thanks again to okbye.

Mefites are even better in person. Okbye, you rock for putting this together and being awesome. Hippybear and wallabear and Nick, you rock for making the drive out, and also for being awesome.
