Fri January 25 at 7:00 PM, Dede's Teajuice City
4647 Convoy Street, San Diego, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
Anyone interested in sampling restaurants on Convoy in the next 2 weeks?
I mentioned in Convoy Conquest thread that I'd be visiting SD. Got my dates firmed up, I'll be in your fair city Jan 22-Feb 1. Anyone interested in meeting for dinner, either at one of the places recommended by our intrepid reporters or trying some place new along the strip?
I'm visiting San Diego too, 1/24-29, and was thinking I should take a closer look at the Convoy Conquest blog & FPP.

(And, yes, I would love to come to an SD meet-up, though I'm not sure which day would work for the friends I'm staying with.)

I missed that thread! how funny. I used to live in clairemont and convoy is delicious.
I'll be in seattle between the 24th & 28th, but outside those dates I'd love to meet up.

I could be down, sure.
Also, if anyone wants to head surfing one day, PM me. Maybe we can do a proper MeFi day in the water - perhaps around Tourmaline. If you want to learn I have longboards and wetsuits.

I would love to conquest -- I'm flying on 1/24 & 1/29, but could do the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday between.

If I read this right, we've got 2 votes for the 25th/26th/27th, and one vote for anytime other than the 25th/26th/27th. I'm going to be eating on that strip multiple times if we want multiple meetups, but it seems like there really aren't enough people for that (sorry, changeling). How about the 26th?

26th works for me--I'll check with Miko.

Perfect for me (that's my birthday!). Do restaurants have to be on Convoy Street to count for the conquest blog, or is it a neighborhood like a theater being 'on Broadway' in NYC? My friends want to take me to Dae Jang Keum for Korean BBQ but it's on Engineer Road.

Ha! Got off the plane & Google now is informing me "14 minutes to Convoy Tofu House and Nozomi." Google knows me too well.

We are only counting restaurants on Convy for the blog (for now at least!) but I do recommend Dae Jang Keum if you like Korean BBQ. I think our next official conquest spot will be Dede's--it's a Szechuan place and I think it's quite good! What do you you all think about
(Runes, we just visited Nozomi and were not impressed--if you want something similar but better try Izakaya Sakura or Tajima!)

Oops, sorry, got interrupted there! I meant to say, what do you all think about meeting at Dede's on Friday? I'm pretty flexible on the time.

Aww, sad you had a bad experience at Nozomi! Now I have to go back to see if the quality has slipped in the last couple of months. Did you order regular food or sushi, and if sushi, off their special rolls list or regular rolls? I'm a huge fan of the Bill Gate's roll in particular and there are a couple of other rolls there I like. From the regular menu I've enjoyed the chirashi salad and the green noodles. But do avoid the bulgogi (I'm really not sure what the point of this is on the menu, since there about 30 other places that actually specialize in Korean food within half a mile).
Dede's on Friday works for me, anytime after 5.

Oh no, I forgot you'd recommended Nozomi in the other thread, I didn't mean to sound jerkish! :-) sorry about that. It just happened to be the next place in line!
We had the rice cake yakitori, the okonomiyaki, and the miso salmon (server recommendation). Nothing was horrible, but we've just gotten so spoiled after all the places we've been to (and we are extra picky about Japanese food since Miko is Japanese and I lived there for three years.)
We didn't try the sushi though; maybe it's worth a revisit?
Have you been to Sakura? It's one of our favorites.

I haven't had a good okonomiyaki anywhere outside Japan. When I first started going to Nozomi the menu was a big binder with pictures of the rolls with a page stuck in the back of "oh yeah, we make this stuff too" that nobody ever ordered from expert the green noodles. A year or so ago they remade the menu and screwed it up. I'll try sakura tonight.

7 is great! the official name of the restaurant is Dede's Teajuice City--not sure why since "teajuice" doesn't seem to be a feature of the menu.
We'll see you there. Maybe I'll make a reservation just in case.
Definitely get the agedashi mochi and chicken kara-age at Sakura. Their okonomiyaki isn't very good either--Tajima used to make it pretty well but then they took it off the menu for some reason!

exceptinsects - if you need to make the reservation before Runes has a chance to update the thread from proposed to confirmed, count me with a +2. Can't wait to meet everyone (and really can't wait to get to your weather, it is ludicrously cold here this week)

Yay! (I think I need to use up an AskMe to see if there are any decent Szechuan places in NYC, that deep-fried chicken haunts my dreams.)
