I'm coming into town for two weeks JUST after the big planned meetup, but I hear that this is the first meetup you guys have had in a while and might be amenable to having another. It will no longer be at Nellie's as we expect it to not have trivia and be crowded anyhow. It will now be at the Argonaut on the H street corridor at the same time.
I was hoping we could try for prizes, and reducing our beer tab, on December 21st which seems to work best for folks. I'll be around early, drinking the cheaper happy hour beer and maybe eating something, wearing my MetaFilter T-shirt to catalyze aggregation.

Nellie's is fun and I could go, but it's a fairly peculiar (and quick) trivia. With teams up to 8, it can host a lot of people but it's done before you know it (they do back-to-back trivias within an hour). I'm one of the emcees at Wonderland, which does trivia on Mondays with open hosting (anyone can sign up to host). MeFi could one day host trivia if it's interested. Anyone can MeMail to set it up.

I like this idea. Nellie's trivia is pretty much a rain-or-shine kind of thing, but can get very crowded.
My personal favorite is the Argonaut's trivia night, but it's a bit hard to get to.*
Disclaimer: There's nothing I don't like about The Argonaut.

I'm also a fan of Ventnor's trivia night, and not just because it coincides with half-price burger night. That said, I probably can't make it; busy few weeks.

Just something I noticed on Nellie's site, while their calendar lists trivia on the 21st, this says they're taking a break. Not sure which one to believe, but I know most trivia competitions take a break around this time. I'd still be up for a meetup, even if there isn't trivia.

I can come, I think. I've only gone to trivia night at Stetson's which used to be really good (apparently now the quizmaster has changed, and it isn't as challenging). I will say, I happened to be on the season tournament winning team once, but that was definitely not due to my trivia skills, but more due to my choice of date that night. I'll at least help buy beers.

I just called Nellies and it looks like the Trivia folks will be on a break we could still meet there or there is bar trivia and a much bigger bar in general at Buffalo Billiards on the same day that I've just confirmed. It is also right across the street from the south Dupont Metro exit.
I think I'd be more down for moving the event, what does everyone think?
They also used to let me play pool when I was a wee junior high schooler before the drinking really got started.

I'd rather not go to that Buffalo Billiards if possible; there's space but I find it unpleasant and sometimes you have to wait FOREVER to get a drink which I can't stand. That said, it's the last day of school for DCPS so I'll be in a MUCH better mood than I am now; whatever anyone else wants is good with me, I'm probably just crabby.

It looks like the Argonaut is open, is still planning on its Trivia Night, and expects to have space for five to thirty three people. I will change the event and then MeMail everyone who has RSVP'd when I get the time.

The Argonaut is a great place--we've had several very successful meetups there, lasting hours sometimes, and sometimes turning into bar-hopping extravaganzas. If you can make it, you really should. No, it's not walkable from Metro, which is a shame, but the buses run frequently and there should be no problem finding parking on a Wednesday night, and it's a fast cab ride from Union Station. Come!

Yeah, and for folks in the Adams Morgan/Columbia Heights/U Street/Dupont area, the 90 and 92 buses will get you crosstown to 8th and H. It's not a short ride, but both lines are pretty regular and reliable.
It's looking more likely that I will be able to make it at some point. Unlikely that I will be there much before 7:30, though.

The X2 bus also dumps you directly out front of the Argonaut, and is easily accessible to Metro Center, McPherson Square, Gallery Place, Union Station, and the sketchy rear entrance of the Union Station Parking Garage (3rd & H).
If you feel like braving the weather, there's also several Capital Bikeshare stations nearby.

Er. *Just* the sketchy rear entrance of Union Station (unless you want to walk from the somewhat-less-sketchy side entrance to the intersection of H St and North Capitol.)

I'm working on getting over there, but traffic and Metro are not cooperating. If things aren't getting formally started until 8 I'll keep pressing on for a while and see if I can make it, though. I do love me some pub trivia...

Sorry I couldn't join y'all. I have a life insurance physical tomorrow which I'm trying to eke into a lower weight category for, and just know I can't sit around a bar and shoot the shit and NOT drink beer. Delicious, wonderful, carb-filled beer. *sigh* On the up side, without me there you were able to win.
