Happy HanuKwanzaaRamaFestiMas! MeFi Holiday Party!

Fri December 30 at 7:30 PM, Runes' House
Scanlan Trce E, Sienna Plantation, TX, USA (Map & Directions)
Last night at our pub trivia meetup, I floated the idea of some sort of MeFi holiday gathering, and got positive responses. So, let's work this out. Who's up for a party?
There's a lot of people we haven't seen in months, and some who have never made it to a meetup. Let's spread cheer, goodwill, and Mefiness (MeFi-ism?) throughout Houston!
Location is at Runes' House, December 30, 7:30 pm. In order to facilitate the eating, drinking, and merrymaking, this event is BYOB and potluck (bring something yummy to share.)
Dress code is - optional, I guess. Dress up, dress down, dress left, dress right. Some sort of clothing is mandatory, however.
So as they say on cash cab, "Are you in?"

Ooh ooh yes, this. Absolutely.
I'd love to come and celebrate all these holidays with you nerds. My schedule is so bonkers right now (9 performances between now and December 18th, plus rehearsals) that I'm not even going to suggest something that would work well for me. But whatever date you all select, I'll definitely try to move heaven and earth to get there!

I'm in depending on scheduling. I have a party to go to on the 17th.

When I was in college our group would have a St. Stephen's party and exchange anti-gifts, gifts you really didn't want at all. The rule was that you had to keep the gift "prominently displayed or used" for the rest of the year, and no re-gifting. Leonard Nimoy albums were always "popular", and I've probably still got the Eraserhead tape somewhere...
But on topic, we're free pretty much through the holiday.

The wife and I have been tossing it around, and are willing to host at our house. We live way down in Missouri City, though (spot marked in my profile is in the general vicinity of our house). So now all we need is a date, if people are willing to schlep down here. The weekend of the 17th is less good for us than any other.

You are brave souls! I was going to wait till Tuesday morning to try to firm things up, to give people a chance to see this, but if the weekend of the 17th is out, then that leaves either this very next weekend, or right before or after the 25th. So...choices:
Fri Dec 9 - evening
Sat Dec 10 - afternoon
Sat Dec 10 - evening
Sun Dec 11 - afternoon
Thurs Dec 22 - evening
Fri Dec 23 - afternoon (Do people have the day off?)
Fri Dec 23 - evening
Sat Dec 24 - afternoon
Sat Dec 24 - evening
Mon Dec 26th - afternoon (Do people have the day off?)
Fri Dec 30 - afternoon (Do people have the day off?)
Fri Dec 30 - evening
Sat Dec 31 - afternoon
Sat Dec 31 - evening
Whatever time we decide on, I move that we make it BYOB/Potluck. Any objections?

Fri, Dec 30, evening seems like a winner to us. Also, we don't have to have it at our place, if having it in a more central location would increase participation I'm all for that.

Holy crap, do we have a date?!?
Okay, now location. Do we want to go to Runes' house, or are there any suggestions for a more centralized location? I'm drawing a blank except for the taqueria.

As someone who lives on the south side of town, Missouri City isn't a big schlep for me. But in consideration of some folks who live East/North/West in our fair sprawling metropolis, might we do better to find a more centrally located spot? (Certainly not to diminish your very gracious offer, Runes!!) That said, I think we'll have a hard time finding a public potluck/byob-friendly spot. A puzzlement!
Um, perhaps instead we plan to have it somewhere here in town that will facilitate merriment and noshing without it being potluck? There are plenty of places that come to mind. But this time of year, my mind turns to The Black Lab because of their hearth. I'm a sucker for a hearth. Anyone know of any other good hearths in town that we can sit around and be merry?
I'd even be down for doing our own silly White Quonsar gift exchange of hilarious and nerdy anti-gifts as Runes suggested.

Yeah, when I suggested the potluck/BYOB I meant if we were doing it in a private home.

Though there is a hearth in the IKEA store, if we wanted to pay homage to IKEA Heights. Not sure how they'd feel about a BYOB potluck, but maybe if we shared with the employees?
And I'm totally up for a White Quonsar gift exchange.

We're three weeks out, I propose that we move this from "Proposed" to "Scheduled"? We're still more than happy to host, and I've asked my former exchange student from Denmark for a gløgg recipe. Her response to the stuff at Ikea was "that's not gløgg. Proper gløgg has alcohol, lots of it".

Well, to be fair, IKEA does suggest on the label that you add alcohol to it.
Yeah, people are not checking in either way on whether or not your house is too far. So I'm going to assume they're okay with it, and confirm it for Dec. 30th at your house, Runes. What time would you like us to start arriving?

Works for me. I'll set it up. Not sure how you want to disseminate your address - maybe via MeMail to those who confirm?

Good suggestion. Yes, if you plan to come, confirm and I'll MeMail you the address. If you're allergic to cats, I'm sorry that I do have an indoor kitty. He'll be banished to a room for the party but he does have the run of the house the rest of the time. Smokers, we have a very nice patio that's even covered if the weather is inclement (if nice we'll probably put a firepit out there). . If you have cooking/heating needs, let me know what your requirements are. We are not vegetarian so if you object to cooking on the same space as stuff that has cooked meat then MeMail me and I'll see if we can't get creative. Any other constraints/requests/questions, feel free to MeMail.

I'm a little broke for gift exchanging but I will bring my famous HOT salsa and some wine or something tasty like that. Look forward to it! :-)

Seriously, though - yay, peoples! I'm thinking that more will check in now that The Big Jew's Birthday is over. I'm wondering if it's kosher to post a link in one of the old, more popular Houston IRL posts, so that it shows up in people's Recent Acrivity feeds?

Wood's laid in for the firepit, and the weather is supposed to be nice. If you show up and nobody answers the door, come on around back.
