Horace Rumpole and DiscourseMarker are in Philadelphia for RBMS.
As decided here, we're going to show them (and anyone else) how much brotherly love and beer we've got in South Philly.
Directions: Hop on the Broad Street line going south. Make sure it's a local train, not an express. Get off at the Tasker/Morris stop and exit at Morris Street. Walk south two blocks, turn right on Mifflin, walk 1 1/2 blocks, South Philly Tap Room is on your right.

Ack. I very much wanted to go to this, but I just looked up where it is, Yelp is telling me it's in Point Breeze, and I really do not feel comfortable walking around Point Breeze by myself, especially when I'm not really sure where I'm going. Eek. Unless someone is willing to coordinate leaving the train station with me...

Millipede: While While I'm sure the neighborhood category is accurate, it's certainly not smack-in-the-middle of a terrible neighborhood. It's 3.5 blocks, the directions are pretty straightforward, and it's a safe walk from the subway. Hope to see you there!

millipede and anyone else nervous about the neighborhood, it's sorta...next to Point Breeze. (We call the revitalized area Newbold. You may have quaffed the eponymous Philadelphia Brewing Company IPA.)
People totally should not wander the surrounding area alone, but it's a safe walk from the subway according to the directions above.

I am very very white, with very short and very red hair, wearing a brown sorta-batik dress. lagreen is blond and totally cute. Tomorrowful has a beard.
Browse some old Meetups for photos of those of us who will be there? Dunno if Horace Rumpole will sporting his Metafilter shirt or not.

Yeah!! Thank you everyone for making us out-of-towners feel so welcome. TWO meetups in one week--for my money, Philadelphia definitely does NOT suck! You guys are awesome, and I hope we can come back and visit again when Horace is not organizing a conference.
I'm going to try to post my pictures after I get back home tomorrow--can you post in the thread if you were there so I can try to match names to the pictures? I'm anal that way ;-)

(Thumbtack in my SO's bike wheel blew out his tire, he took a spill but is totally ok, but was stranded in Fishtown with his bike. The Straightener, have I embarassed you with thanks for the minivan rescue mission yet?)

I had a great time seeing everyone on Wednesday and I'm really bummed that I decided to skip this meetup. It was just a bit of a haul from Manayunk and I'm at the mercy of public transportation but I will definitely go to the next one.
