Formerly the Remote Non-synchronous Relay Walk. Formally the Peripatetic Persistent Pirate Puffins' Pacific Peregrination: SF to Tokyo 🐧. You say it takes 633 hours of peregrination* to get from Tokyo to Vladivostok. The more you (dear reader) log your hours, the sooner we'll have gone the distance. Join any time. Track our progress (hopefully I can figure it all out soon). Still with our Official Puffin Mascot "S.F. Tokyo, Pirate" (they/them)!
*Inclusive definition of peregrination. Includes (but is not limited to) archery, biking, bouldering, canoeing, cleaning, dancing and walking with babies, dancing/jump roping/hula hooping your way down the sidewalk, geocaching, going very slowly and stopping to smell the snails, hiking, hopping, ice skating, jogging, jumping with and/or without ropes, kayaking, paddle boarding, parkour, rock climbing, roller blading, roller skating, running, skate boarding, skipping, snowshoeing, swimming, strength training, surfing, treadmilling while watching TV, triking, unicycling, vacuuming, wheelchairing, X-country skiing, yard work, etc.

Gotta add tap dancing to our list. I just started a tap class, and boy, I'm not a teenager anymore. Last time I danced like this, I was 18. It was nice that things just sorta came back, though. The woman teaching it was one of the kids I danced with growing up. It was great to see her again!

If we're joining late (just saw this in another thread) should we add data since Sept. 10 (have it tracked on fitbit)?

So I joined and immediately messed thing up by logging steps instead of hours. :( Does someone have the ability to turn my logged steps to 12.5 hours?

I tried but it screws up everything. Maybe aniola can figure out how to do it. (crosses fingers...)

It's a virtual walk from place to place. Log the number of hours of peregrination* you do. In the last event, we peregrinated* enough hours to go from SF to Tokyo (hours calculated via Google Maps). Once we reached Tokyo, we decided on a new destination and now we're peregrinating there.

Feel free to join us in our journey. It's definitely got me off my butt and moving more.

*see OP for definitions of peregrination

On the journey between SF and Tokyo are participants more likely to roller blade or to go very slowly and stop to smell the snails?
posted by bendy at 10:25 PM on September 30, 2021

I did a fair amount of walking and dancing with babies.

About 50/50 split (time wise). I run regularly, and also walk (meander) daily with my 16 year old dog…although what we stop to smell is not the roses!

And I've put a link in the submission form in my own tracking spreadsheet so I remember to keep doing it. :)

I did my first 5K yesterday! I had 3 goals, a major, a minor and a boy I wish I could do this...

1. Finish - check
2. Not be dead last - check
3. Do it in under an hour - check. It took me about 55 minutes.

AUGH sorry I messed up, can someone fix my latest entry to 4.23 HOURS, not 254? It's early in the day and I'm in pain and forgot to divide by 60.

Congrats kathrynm, great job! All that baby dancing pays off!

Hmmmm... last couple of my entries aren't showing up. I'll have to re add them. Nothing from the past week has gone through. I wonder what happened.

Figured it out. Somehow I was putting it into the SF->Tokyo form. I blame sinus issues.

Currently makes it 76.5%, if I'm adding it up right (484.9 hours). What's the basis for the 633 total hours of peregrination? Not disputing it, would just like to know!
posted by paduasoy at 12:58 PM on December 30, 2021

I think I calculated it with Google Maps.

Hey folks, I just wanted to drop by and apologize for going missing in action. I don’t have any excuse I just kind of lost the thread and not just with this group and journey. So thank you for still being here. I am not going to pretend that I will contribute given that I have Covid and have lost more threads. Luckily I have a mild case. I just wanted you guys to know that I am cheering you on and wishing each one of you all the best!
