Sun June 24 at 3:00 PM, litlnemo's house
2603 Addison Dr, Atlanta, GA, USA (Map & Directions)
Hi all! I moved from Seattle to Atlanta in late 2016, and I think it's time to meet some local MeFites. So let's potluck!
UPDATED: We have a date!

Potluck at my house in Doraville. As I am a non-drinker you may want to bring drinks that you like, since I don't know what's good. :) But I will provide sodas and such. I will warm up the grill for anything you want to put on it!

surname A-I: main
I-P: side
Q-Z: dessert
Please post here with what you will bring so I'll know if we're entirely missing something we need to have, etc.

I have a patio under a pergola to hang out on, and room indoors as well. Questions? Ask me. :)

---
Previous post: Anyone want to get together? I'm not sure what specifically we would do... coffee chat, game night, art show, music, or backyard grilling/potluck?

Actually, that last one sounds fun -- I'd be happy to host something at my house if people are into that. I bought a grill last year and it is as yet completely unused. Need to break that thing in!

I live in Doraville, very close to Buford Highway. Anyone interested?

Sounds good! I would attend if my schedule allows, our summer is kind of crazy. But, I've never been to a meetup and would love to go.

I'm down for it. It's been a while since there was a meetup, I think.

It's been a hot minute since an ATL meetup. I'd be down for something.

I haven't been to a meetup since I moved to Atlanta! I'll be there. (Unless the baby was up all night the night before, then I'll probably just want to sleep.)

I'd love to meet up, and would be super down for a potluck! Doraville area works for me.

I like this idea!

Yup! (also there are lots of good food options around where you are that work for groups if you dont feel like hosting... Food Terminal, maybe?)
posted by softlord at 12:23 PM on June 1, 2018

A potluck sounds great, as does Food Terminal. Count me in.

if a date and time is fixed up, let me know. I'm about 3 hours away but this is probably the closest I'll ever be to a mefite meetup, so... work sometimes takes me into that vicinity and maybe something can be made to work out.
posted by randomkeystrike at 1:48 PM on June 1, 2018

I've been hoping to get to a meetup for years, but it never seems to work out. I will definitely be following this and maybe the time and place will finally work out.

OK, sounds like people are up for this... is a Saturday evening in general a good time for most of you? Or a Sunday afternoon?
posted by litlnemo at 2:40 PM on June 1, 2018

If schedule allows, I’d love to meet up. I may or may not be able to make it, so please don’t schedule around me, but Sunday afternoon is probably more likely for me.
posted by needlegrrl at 3:02 PM on June 1, 2018

Sunday afternoon is better for me, but I'll try to make it no matter when it's scheduled.
posted by ralan at 3:17 PM on June 1, 2018

Count me in. I have never been to a meetup and it is on my bucket list. I could make Saturday or Sunday work and I think a potluck would be perfect.
posted by mumblelard at 3:23 PM on June 1, 2018

I'm definitely interested. Like most folks it would just depend on schedules, and mine does tend to be wacky.
posted by hydropsyche at 1:47 PM on June 3, 2018

Would Sunday afternoon, June 17, work for everyone? or is that too soon?
posted by litlnemo at 11:42 PM on June 3, 2018

Works for me, although that's Father's Day, so I imagine some people may have other plans.
posted by jessicapierce at 12:08 PM on June 4, 2018

Oops, you're right. OK, that's a bad idea. :) How about the 24th?
posted by litlnemo at 1:31 PM on June 4, 2018

I'm in for the 24th.
posted by cirgue at 2:20 PM on June 4, 2018

24th works for me.

Yup

The 24th works for me also.

We are official!

I was thinking cornbread.

My surname is in the Main category, so I'll bring some BBQ and stew from one of the local places here in Conyers, Pippin's BBQ (they don't have much of a web presence). I can also bring some non-alcoholic beverages if needed.

I will be headed to the mountains that day. Sorry to miss y'all this time. We should do this more regularly!
posted by hydropsyche at 2:58 PM on June 6, 2018

I will be there, though I'll likely need to leave early

I landed in dessert, so I will bring a pie and a big dish of cold melon.

I would strongly consider going, but alas, you picked the one Sunday in ages in which I'll have to work. If all goes well, I hope you'll consider doing another event at some point in the future.

Doh! I just saw this, and I am volunteering at a camp that week. Next one?
posted by heathrowga at 4:33 PM on June 18, 2018

I'm sad to say I have plans already but I hope everyone has a great time and I hope to make it next time!
posted by pointystick at 4:49 PM on June 18, 2018

Hey all! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday! Weather forecast is for thunderstorms and temps in the 90s, but I have AC and my patio has a pergola roof (sadly, it's not screened in... yet).

ralan, that web page says Pippin's is closed on Sundays...?

If anyone is bringing something that needs to go on the grill please let me know! Because if no one does, I can save the charcoal and not start it up.

Sounds like we have cornbread, BBQ and pie already... that sounds really really good!

Reminder: As I am a non-drinker you may want to bring drinks that you like, since I don't know what's good. :) I will buy non-alcoholic stuff.
posted by litlnemo at 3:33 PM on June 21, 2018

I'll get the stuff from Pippin's on Saturday when I'm out running errands. I go to that side of town to buy groceries so I'll stop by on the way home. It's a 35 to 45 minute drive from my house to your house so it would need to be reheated once I got there even if I bought it Sunday on the way.

Let me know if I need to bring anything else. Saturday is grocery day for me so I'll already be at the store and can get most anything.

Hey, just wanted to make sure we're still on even if it's only going to be 5 people attending? (I am totally pleased to hang out as 5 people - just checking!)
posted by jessicapierce at 12:00 PM on June 22, 2018

We are totally still on. :) See you then!

I'm so glad this is happening. I found out about it too late (already have plans,) but yay for a local meetup. Thank you, litlnemo for hosting!

I forgot to pick up some ice for the cooler while I was out... if anyone else can bring some, that would be great. :)

Also, I do have a tiny bit of alcohol after all... I forgot that people have gifted me some wine and champagne.
posted by litlnemo at 9:52 PM on June 23, 2018

"Combo of heat and humidity will mean dangerous conditions at times this afternoon -- heat index near 100 at times." Thank god for the AC inside!!
posted by litlnemo at 4:44 AM on June 24, 2018

I'm coming from Marietta and ran into some traffic. Should be there in about 20 minutes though. I forgot to ask: anything tricky about identifying the house, or knowing where to park?
posted by jessicapierce at 12:11 PM on June 24, 2018

I guess now you know. :)

The ATL meetup had a squirrel in a unicorn's head. Top that, other meetups!

Thank you litlnemo for hosting, thank you everyone who showed up. Thank you fun squirrel getting food out of the unicorn head feeder.

Sigh. Was randomly called out of town. Will make the next one! (also i think it would be great to make this a regular event? Even like... every two months or something...

I was also out of town!
