A walk in the woods

Sat April 21 at 1:00 PM, Middlesex Fells Reservation
4 Woodland Rd, Stoneham, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
Not to jinx it or anything, but it seems like the weather is taking a turn for the better. We're going to shoot for Saturday, April 21 at 1pm at the Middlesex Fells Reservation. If the weather is cruddy, we'll shift it to April 22 at 1pm.
How about we meet on the East side of the lake at the Botume House Visitor Center on this map. It's near the parking marker by the pond on this map.

I've only seen the maps of this place, so if anyone has suggestions for better trails, I'm more than happy to change the plans.

I would totally be up for this, though I've got a few things going on the next couple weekends. It's also mud season, but if we have a few dry days leading up to it things should be fine. I haven't been to the Fells in many years. Early spring will be nice, with trees popping and everything doing their spring thing.

The weekend of the 21 would be great!

I would love to do this!

This sounds lovely if I'm in town!

I'm pretty sure I'm spoken for every Saturday in April, but if things change I'll come with the dog.

The weekend of the 21st looks good for me. Would Saturday the 21st or Sunday the 22nd work better for folks?

+1 for sat

That weekend looks great, either the 21st or the 22nd.

Yeah, I think I can probably do the 21st or 22nd.

Saturday or Sunday 4/21 or 4/22 sounds lovely. The latter is Earth day. Whatever the better weather day is would be my instinct, perhaps we could agree on Saturday, with Sunday 4/22 as backup if rain?

I think I'm in but I want to double check when the science rally is. If there's no conflict I can give rides from Somerville.

that's near me, I'd be interested. I'll see what date is settled on; pretty sure I'm working weekend of 21st.

Sounds great to me, too. Sunday has the slight edge for me, but as a 'maybe,' please give more weight to the more committed.

Excellent! I'll go ahead and confirm us for the 21st with the 22nd as a backup date.

Sadly I'm out of town most of April, but if it's the 29th, I'm in.

Can I as how far/long the hike is likely to be? I'm pretty lazy. I mean, I'm still going. But pretty seriously lazy. =D
posted by invincible summer at 3:26 PM on March 29, 2018

Probably a few miles. Nothing too strenuous. And it should be mostly flat.
posted by holmesian at 4:30 AM on March 31, 2018

I'm really interested, either day!

Sunday works best for me, if that's still under discussion. But I know I'm just one person, and hopefully I'll get to see Massachusetts mefites at other events!

I'd be ok moving it to Sunday if that works for everyone else, otherwise, I'll be sure to host another one! (assuming this one doesn't put everyone off of hiking with me :) )

hey all! I'm doing last minute dog-sitting tomorrow. I am still planning for the hike, and I'm not sure yet if it will make sense for me to bring the dog or not, and wanted to check here first.

does anyone have allergies or aversion to a medium sized dog? any input on bringing him along?

+1 for good doggies.

One vote for leaving it on Saturday (from someone who said I preferred Sunday before, but who no longer can make it then). No objections to dogs!

I just chatted with the owner, and Rico has some dominance issues when passing other male dogs. so, to make it enjoyable and relaxed (and to allow others with more peaceable pups the option of bringing them along) I'll leave the doggie at home. thanks for the quick responses!

I'm not going to make it - I'm moving the last of my stuff to my new apartment. Enjoy the sun!

We're starting off. I sent memail with my number to everyone attending so if you're running late, just send me a text. :)

That was a lot of fun. Thanks for setting it up, holmesian. Amy had a great time too. I hope we can do more Me-Hikes!

I took a couple of photos, which are here.

Yes, I really liked that outing! Thanks to our organizer and our route-plotters. Looking forward to another outdoorsy meetup some time soon, I hope!

I still mope when I see your sad faces. But it was an awesome day for a hike, glad you all had fun! Jessamyn and I met holmesian a few weeks ago, and he was wondering if you'd all be up for a local hike, and I was like hells yah here's where to go. So I am glad it all happened! I'll make sure to put the next one on my CALENDAR. what? you say? there are calendar links at the top of the page?
