Picnic in the gardens

Sat May 20 at 1:00 PM, Untermyer Park and Gardens
945 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
Come to the gardens in Yonkers where I work and have a potluck picnic. As an outside event that depends heavily on weather, the date for this event could easily change. So definitely check here before heading out the door!
Memail me to exchange phone numbers if you need a ride from the train station.
We will be picnicking near the Temple of Love - grab a brochure for a map.
The gardens are in Yonkers and are most easily reached by car, bus or Metro North. Our website has detailed directions. Note that if you're taking the bus, the Beeline uses NYC's metrocard and accepts transfers from the subway at the northern terminus of the 1 line (242nd and Broadway). In the past, there were drivers coming from NYC and my husband also picked up people from the Greystone Metro North train station - hopefully we can do this again as the walk from the train station is quite uphill. Trains run approximately once an hour and the train ride which is along the banks of the Hudson River is one of the most beautiful train rides I've enjoyed. Try to get a seat on the west side of the train to get the best views.
The gardens have public restrooms, and parts are wheelchair accessible - the area we are planning on picnicking is accessible if person with the wheelchair doesn't mind a bit of off-road action. Or we could change the picnic location.
We should plan to meet around 1pm and picnic and I'd be happy to show people around the place after lunch.
The picnic is scheduled for Saturday May 20th with Saturday May 27as a rain date (NB, the 27th is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend).
This is a public park so there is no admission fee. Things that are not permitted: dogs and alcohol. Kids are definitely welcome. I will be inviting non-mefite friends and family, so feel free to bring a +1 or +n.
I now have a toddler, so you will likely get to meet the little guy.

I lean towards the 20th, but can make either. Hopefully this year, I will actually be there.

This sounds great. I can't do the 20th, but if it gets bumped to the 27th, I'm gonna go!

Not to jinx anything, but it looks like this weekend's rain will clear out the cold front in time for us to have some nice picnic weather next weekend.
As usual, I plan on making 'Grandpa Cooley's Angry Deviled Eggs', eggs already in the fridge from the weekend grocery run, so they have time to shrink a little for easier peeling. And I will most likely stop at Trader Joe's & Whole Foods on the way for additional munchies.

I'll be bringing beverages: water, soda and probably a case of something non-caffeinated. I will also bring cups, plates, and plastic cutlery.
Bring a picnic blanket to sit on.
The gardens are at their late spring peak - everything is gloriously green.
See you all on Saturday!

Also: at the moment the weather report looks just about perfect: sunny with a high of around 70oF.

My boyfriend is in town for the weekend and I'm moving towards the 'no' side of 'maybe'.

This is a pretty relaxed picnic - a friend of mine from high school who just moved to the area is coming. Non-mefites are very much welcome

If you're on the fence about coming:

That was kind of the original plan. :) He's sick, though. I'll see if he's reassessed since we last talked about it.

Thank you to all of you who made it to Yonkers. Despite a few rain drops early, it was wonderful to hang out in the gardens with you guys, my family and friends from various parts of my life.

Either day should be fine - but I vote for the 20th, with the 27th as the fallback in case of rain.
