Hi Bay Area! I'm in a mandolin orchestra and we're looking for new members who play guitar or a mandolin family instrument. Our first rehearsal of the season is on Sunday afternoon and prospective members are welcome to join us. We'll be playing Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, preparing for concerts on April 8 & 9 in SF and Palo Alto.
What you should bring:
  • A mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello, or guitar. We especially need a mandocello!
  • Ability to read standard notation
  • A music stand
  • Whatever else you need in order to play your instrument except for the chair. We have chairs.
  • A sweater, because the room we practice in can get chilly
What to expect:
  • If you're new, please arrive on time (1:30pm) to introduce yourself to the conductor (and me!)
  • Do whatever you need to do in order to mostly* play through at least the first 7-8 movements. We might get through more than that! I have no idea.
  • There are about 20 of us this season
  • We play until 4:45pm with a 10min break, usually between 3-3:30
  • If you decide it's not for you, there's no need to commit to the rest of the season
*Sometimes I miss a lot of notes on the first play through

If you're planning to come, let me know what instrument you play and I'll PM the sheet music. More info at http://sfmandolin.org/rehearsals/
