Hey everyone! We're planning a little "meet your fellow Calgary MeFites" night, over board games! Join us if you can, should be great.
Would love to meet. I tend to be a coffee shop person rather than a bar person but only because bars can get noisy and shouty, and I love me some interesting conversation at under 100 dB.

<100dB hangs sound good! Friday/Saturday is the most doable for me too, although the next few weekends are somewhat busy for me. How does Friday, Sept 23 sound for a date?
I'll ponder a suitable venue this weekend; any suggestions on that front? Something like a board game cafe might be well-suited to something like this. There's also Kawa and the Roasterie, both solid options in the category of "coffee shops w/later hours".

I would be all over a Board Game cafe. 23rd should be possible, I think.

I haven't actually ever been to one, which is why I'm so keen! I love board games.

8pm is ok; I can even go a little earlier (7:30?) as I know I have an event the next morning and will be up early.

Ealier than 8pm is totally fine by me; I can be there as early as 6pm so happy to do whenever.
nubs - assuming 7pm is probably even better for you, I'll change the time to that for now and continue to update as we discuss.

How will we recognize each other? I've never done this before, haha. I realize there will only be a few of us so I realize it might not be a simple/obvious as other larger MeFi meetups.

Oh god, yeah. I always forget about that.
Usually the first person or two there puts a note in the thread about where they are sitting/what they are wearing. I know the first one I went to, I put a sheet of paper on the table that had a MeFi in-joke on it to help. Or maybe we just look for whoever is kind of sitting awkwardly looking like they are looking for other people they don't know?

Hahaha right on.
OK so the only problem is I have an oldschool phone from like 1997 with a text-only situation, so once I leave the house here I won't have access to this thread anymore.
However, tell you what: nubs, I'll send you a Mefi Mail message with my number on it, and you can text my directly about who's sitting where etc.
Maybe I'll also bring a notebook and write MEFI on it in huge letters.
Anyways, see you all in a bit! Really looking forward to it!

Well, I had to work late tonight (I thought this was yesterday and didn't realize until I checked this post like a block away from Boxcar). Still haven't had supper, so I think I'm just going to head home. Sorry to have missed it; we should start planning for another one in late October / early November perhaps?

Sorry you couldn't make it, Homeboy Trouble! We had a good time and are talking about doing another one before Christmas probably, so yeah - I'd be down for doing it again soon.
It was great fun; we played maybe two rounds of a game but spent most of our time chatting with each other.
