UPDATE: Change of venue this week--we're heading to Orleans in Davis Square. Big money cash prizes await!

Jessamyn's going to be playing trivia on Wednesday at Orleans in Davis Square with her trivia nerd friends ... I played with them a few weeks ago, and they are formidable, and so is their competition. What would you all think about switching the venue this week, give her friends a run for their money?

The trivia there is played in a different way: for each round, you are told the four categories to be covered, and for each question in the round, you assign it 1, 3, 5, or 7 points, depending on your confidence and the remaining categories in the round. The questions seem a little more difficult. There's also twist in the end where you can wager a lot, but you can actually lose points -- kinda like final jeopardy; the MC tells you the point totals in between each round so you know how much you can wager in the end. I also think the team limit is eight people instead of six. And the prize is cash money, too, IIRC.

Here are some yelp reviews... anyone want to give it a shot?

I'd be down for Orleans, sounds like fun.

I would also be into that, although the trivia sounds somewhat daunting. But anywhere that puts poutine on top of a burger is fine by me.

I'd be up for Orleans. It would be a nice change of pace, and I like the walk from Mass Ave to Davis Square.

I'd be down; what time is it at Orleans? I get off work at 7:30 in Davis.

Looks like this is OK for most folks, so I have updated the thread accordingly.

The trivia format you are describing sounds like Stump trivia, the other trivia organization in Boston (and elsewhere).

Orleans food tends to try a little hard, I feel, but that also means there are more options not named after Joe's.

Also if we are going to be in Davis proper, we can totally get ice/ cream after trivia!!!

Whoa, it's like what Raekwon said about battling for cash to see who sons who! Except without rapping.

I recognize nearly all of those words.

Sounds like fun! I'll be coming from work but should make it before 8. Are these also 6 person teams?

ah shoot, I forgot that I have A Thing on Wednesdays at that time. I might skip out on it but we'll see.

Some context, which may or may not help.

Whoa, that's, like, a 20-year-old video.

Raekwon is the Korean name for Sun Tzu.

On Preview: Dammit, you guys provided actual information before I could "help".

There used to be a painting near Davis Square of a little blue meatball thing quoting that lyric. It's long gone, so I'm guessing the City of Somerville sonned him.

I am not ashamed to say that my favorite thing in the whole wide world is to "help" with True Facts and other Real Information. Just this weekend I convinced some of my extended family that I had been in a horrible lawnmower-related accident in my youth and that I had been carefully hiding my prosthetic legs since the age of eight.

My absolute favorite, though, was the day I convinced a friend that Columbus Day was devised as a marketing stunt for Columbus, Ohio tourism.
