Will you be at the Small Press Expo this year? Are you a comics enthusiast who lives in the Baltimore/DC area? Come have a drink on Friday night!
I'll be exhibiting at SPX this year (table W17B!) so I'll be pretty busy Saturday and Sunday, but if any other MeFites will be around Friday night I'd love a chance to hang out! I figured we'd just meet up at the hotel bar, especially since alcohol is likely to be involved and I'd rather avoid tipsily wandering around Bethesda in a rental car.
However, I'm absolutely flexible about the place and time, so if you're interested in principle but aren't sure of the specifics, let me know if something else would work better for you.

I'm so sad about missing it! Normally I would totally be there but it overlaps with the bf's anime convention this year :(

The hotel bar is probably the best bet (there is a Friday night reception for exhibitors/etc. but everyone ends up in the hotel bar in the end anyway) and will also guarantee I'll actually be able to show up.

Whatever else you do while you're in town, eat dinner at Joe's Noodle House at least once. It's pretty awesome and just down the street from the hotel.

Darksong - Yeah, I figured that late-ish Friday at the hotel would be a good balance of "Does not interfere with expo events" and "Maximally accessible for exhausted exhibitors."

I'd never heard of this event before, and it's in my own backyard! Gary Panter is one of my favorite artists. I'm totally going, now. Probably won't make it to a Friday night gathering, but thanks so much for posting this here. MeFites are so cool.

Is it reasonable to expect that as a non-exhibitor who isn't staying at the hotel, I'll be able to get in to the bar Friday night? I'd love to join but would prefer not to make the trek up into MD only to find out I need a name tag to enter.

Hotels have no interest in keeping you out of the bar, capricorn. You'll be fine.

Sweet, I'll be there then. And back Sunday for comics most likely. I loved A Stray in the Woods too and my copy from Kickstarter should be showing up in the mail soon! :)

If you can't make it Friday night, there's plenty of awesome hanging out Saturday night after the Ignatz Awards ceremony (I promise a good show!). Fun will be had by all.

I'm here at the hotel! Still planning to head down to the bar a little before 9, unless there's a different time that works better for folks! I'll post in the thread with my whereabouts - I'm in a turquoise dress and a blue hoodie, have chin-length dark blonde hair, and dark-framed glasses.
Warning: I may have the glassy-eyed look of a woman who drove down from NYC and then immediately walked into the exhibitor party. ;)

I'm sitting in the corner by the glass windows that look out on the hotel hallway, with my big orange purse sitting on the table. If any of you folks have time to say hi, I figure I'll stay here for a half hour at least!
