Mon July 8 at 7:00 PM, Chatterbox Highland
800 Cleveland Avenue South, Saint Paul, MN, USA (Map & Directions)
Classic video games (Donkey Kong! Centipede!), beer, and a private room. What else do we need, really? menu. I will be bringing board games, a ukulele, and spare social energy. original proposal
Note: This is at the HIGHLAND Chatterbox, in St. Paul. If you go to other Chatterbox locations, and happen to meet MeFites, it will be entirely by accident.

Chatterbox is a family friendly venue, kids welcome.

Outsiders also welcome!

Comment or ask if you need a ride!

Is anyone interested in biking from Minneapolis? I guess I'd go down Nicollet or Portland to the Greenway to Hiawatha to 46th. The Minnehaha Parkway trail is not really usable after dark as it's impossible to see where you're going, but it'd be another option for the way there.

However, it also looks like it's going to be like 90 degrees. So I maybe wouldn't say no to a ride from someone who will pass just south of downtown on their way. Might also just bike there and then go home mostly by light rail.

hey, something in Saint Paul! I suppose since I live about 3 blocks away I don't have much of an excuse not to attend this time.

I think I can do this one. I work a short distance from the Chatterbox and this might give me an excuse to come in late on Monday since my schedule is normally silly early. It'd be quite fun to meet Jessamyn, but the biggest draw to me is that the last few meetups I have actually made it to were full of wonderful people. I have huge and weird social anxiety but I have not had any problems at the last few meetups. I will play plenty of video games (and if there is pinball there you might lose me for a while), but no beer for me. I'll buy a round for everybody else though if I can make this happen!

I think I can make this!

I suspect I'll be arriving by bike from from DT. St. Paul and heading to the Powderhorn area afterward, if anyone wants to ride in any of those directions at corresponding times.

Will make every attempt to make it. I'll be coming up from Burnsville, so if rides are needed along any reasonable route from there to the Chatterbox, I am happy to oblige. Heyland, where would you need a pickup?

Damn. Husband and I have tickets to the Great Big Sea concert at the zoo that night.

And of course when I say Heyland I mean Hoyland.

I think I should be able to make this. I can also pick up anyone who needs a lift. I live in NE.
posted by triggerfinger at 1:46 PM on July 5, 2013

I might be busy with my own trip prep stuff, but I'll see if I can make it.

I sometimes do too and now I have to make it, so I hope you can also. I am looking forward to this.

I would love to come! Especially with the boardgames! But sadly I will be in class. =( I hope everyone has fun!

I'm in! If anyone needs a ride from Minneapolis, let me know. I'll be coming from uptown (Franklin and Lyndale), but I'm happy to swing a bit out of my way if someone needs it.

I am fanboying so hard right now

I'm thinking I would prefer to get there on my own unless it's going to rain. (Because, uh, then I can just leave if/when I hit my socialisation limits.)

I'm near Franklin and Nicollet, so if the weather forecast changes on Monday, I guess I'll memail triggerfinger and SemiSophos, as I'm sort of on their way.
posted by hoyland at 3:23 PM on July 6, 2013

I'm expecting to be there, but might be a little late depending on what's going on at home with kids and bedtimes.
posted by nickmark at 6:56 PM on July 6, 2013

oooh! Near my school, just after class ends. I'll be there! I guess I'll just look for the ukelele?
posted by sparklemotion at 10:33 AM on July 7, 2013

I was thinking about biking from uptown but decided against it, as it'll be 90 degrees when I arrive and probably dark the whole way back home. Memailing SemiSophos now...

The light rail to the 46/74/84 at the 46th St station puts you within a block of the Chatterbox if you get off by the Barnes & Noble on Ford & Cleveland. This is a trip I have taken literally thousands of times.

I'm kinda twitterpated from a CONvergence convention weekend, but I hope to make it.

I am driving from Powderhorn, and can pass the 38th street station either direction.

Drawback: I will be 1st person there, and last to leave, so you would have to be in for the long haul!

I'm with ZeusHumms -- pretty exhausted from Convergence, but hoping to make it.

I'll be there with some more board games. I can also help out with rides, I'll be coming from downtown Mpls, Loring Park area.
posted by mmmtofu at 10:30 AM on July 8, 2013

Ugh. I think I'm conceding that biking to St Paul would be a good way to get heat stroke. Will memail SemiSophos and mmmtofu as they're closest to me.

I can offer a ride from Edina, St Louis Park, or Uptown.

Oh man! I'm wearing a blue firefox t-shirt and plaid shorts! This is either going to be awkward or awesome! Maybe everyone can wear plaid shorts?
posted by SemiSophos at 3:55 PM on July 8, 2013

I do not have plaid shorts!! :( :(
posted by triggerfinger at 3:57 PM on July 8, 2013

I have plaid shorts! But I probably should not come, as I still have to do laundry and my car has not yet appeared.

Should I arrive, I will arrive wearing plaid shorts.
posted by dinty_moore at 4:05 PM on July 8, 2013

I guess I'll be a little late, then. I'll stop and get plaid shorts on my way over. I guess I'll change in the car or something.

I have two extra pairs plaid shorts, but they're in my hamper awaiting The Laundering.

I don't think I can be of any assistance here, unless people want to wear my dirty plaid shorts. You guys need to give me more forewarning about all of this. Geeze.
posted by SemiSophos at 4:14 PM on July 8, 2013

Next time, please remember to use the Plaid Shorts Font when planning meetups! (SemiSophos I'll be at your place without plaid shorts in about 10 minutes. But I will have some type of shorts, promise)
posted by antonymous at 4:23 PM on July 8, 2013 [1 favorite]

So I left my wallet at home, and I spilled down the front of my shirt at lunch and I don't have plaid shorts and my introversion is asking me why wouldn't I just want to go home and play Kerbal Space Program because I completed a major deliverable yesterday and would like to unwind and I'm sure you people are all really nice but you're still strangers so I'm sorry for rsvping yes but then not showing up.

Have fun! I hope to meet you all some other day!

So many MeFites are in the Twin Cities! That was a great evening.

And clearly we should try for a boardgame meetup.

It was great to meet everyone, y'all are good country people. Thanks for coming to visit jessamyn, even if you think the way I dress makes me unemployable . . .

and yes, definitely would be into a board game specific meetup!

Now I'm sorry I didn't make it. Should have probably called down a meetup for CVG as well. But yeah, I'm always up for a board game meetup/night. (Eurogames, not Monopoly).

Nickle Dickle? Cool.

I saw Cthuljew at Convergence; there's probably a healthy MeFite contingent there. We should definitely plan something for next year.

What days of the week would work best for a boardgame meetup? Or should I just pick a date?

This month is challenging for me, but I would definitely make an effort if one were planned. I should be more available after I move at the end of July.

I have the plaid pants photos! I also am generally Flickr/Google+ averse. Any suggestions for where I should put them? (Can I just email them to someone and make it Not My Problem?)

I'd be up for board games. Much better crutch for my talky-nervy self than beer (or at least beer alone). And I have kids, so I lose cheerfully!

For triggerfinger and Fretful Porpentine, I was walking on Nicollet today and the Thai place is Krungthep Thai between 25th and 26th.

(I am sure everyone else is terribly excited to randomly find out the name of (I think) the only Thai place on Nicollet between Franklin and 29th.
posted by hoyland at 6:45 PM on July 11, 2013

That's the one. I want people to be excited! Because it has the best Thai food.
