Philadelphia Monthly Board Game Meetup
posted June 27, 2013 12:01 PM   RSS | iCal | +googleCal

Sat July 27 at 2:00 PM, Frankford Hall
1210 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, USA (Map & Directions)
Complaints have been raised re: our lack of recent board game meetups. Perhaps it is time to fix this.
Looks like Saturday, July 27, works well for a lot of us. Like usual, we'll meet at Frankford Hall from 2 pm until we're done (generally 6 or 7-ish).

Newcomers are very welcome. Frankford Hall is easily accessible by public transit, and if you have any questions about getting there or finding us, ask away!

Nothing is going on for me on the 27/28 but July is filling up fast so my vote shouldn't count for much. Definitely need to get some board game (or beer) action soon tho!

I rarely am free on your traditional human "weekends" but I will request off if this gets traction.

:) :) July 21 or 27 are good. I'm drinking and gaming in Collegeville on July 20 & 28.

July 27/28 works for me!

I was also wondering when another would be. As of now, both weekends are free for me.

Shall we go with Saturday the 27th?

27th Works for me currently, it was a lot of fun last time!

I get back to Philly on the 20th, and can absolutely make the 27th. Although I don't think anyone will recognize me with my mega-tan :)

Confirmed for Saturday the 27th!

I'll be there! I'll try to pick up something new to add to the rotation this time. I don't have a particularly strong opinion so I'm open to requests- if we can find something reasonably priced that isn't already part of somebody's collection that appeals to a lot of people that would be ideal.

I've been wanting to play that one with the diseases and stuff. Pandemic!

I'm going to try and request off for this.

Yay! If anyone has a request, my full collection is listed here:

I keep hearing how awesome Lords of Waterdeep. Could you bring that, Mike?
posted by nolnacs at 12:08 PM on July 2, 2013

Will do!
posted by MikeKn at 4:41 PM on July 2, 2013

Yay! I love Lords of Waterdeep. I suggest one house rule because it does contain one game-breaking Building card, but other than that it's a rad game.
posted by lazaruslong at 9:55 PM on July 2, 2013

Also, relatively quick for a worker-placement. And the Dungeons and Dragons subtext really works so damn well. I could rave about this game for ages.

Will probably be in town then!

I liked that follow the lines but last one to stay on the board game from last time. I forget the name. Quick + Simple.

I've been wanting to try Lords of Waterdeep as well! July is a little crazy for me, so checking in as a maybe for now. Hopefully!

Tsuro is the game that you are thinking of
posted by nolnacs at 10:44 AM on July 9, 2013

We can bring Tsuro if no one else is planning on bringing it.
posted by mlle valentine at 4:32 PM on July 11, 2013

I had added it to my stack, but I can bring something else (plenty to choose from :) )

There's a proposal for a weekly / bi-weekly Pathfinder game DM'd by nolnacs over here. Think about it!
posted by lazaruslong at 1:03 PM on July 13, 2013

Yes, do think about it. Also, for those who don't know what Pathfinder is, it is a pen and paper role playing game that is very similar to dungeons and dragons (it's actually an offshoot of 3.5 edition). You basically control an adventurer who is seeking fame/fortune/power/whatever along with the fellow party members. Much fun is had by all.

Experience is nice but not necessary.

I wish I could join, but I don't think the travel time from the 'burbs would work out. I'm in a Pathfinder game with some friends that meets most Fridays, so I'm still getting my RPG fix.
posted by MikeKn at 5:12 AM on July 18, 2013

If the first one dies, you just roll up a new one. No big deal
posted by nolnacs at 3:24 PM on July 18, 2013

Yeah, you don't need to have experience to make it past first level. And even if you do happen to die, you can roll another. Don't be scared off!

In other news, I have to back out of this board game meetup. I have a chance to pickup a good money shift at Tria and need to take it. DAMN IT! Another bat time, another bat place.

Omg I can't believe I missed that pun. Well played!

I missed it too... don't I feel sheepish
posted by nolnacs at 7:20 AM on July 20, 2013

Coming up soon! We're tentatively in depending on some stuff that may or may not happen on Saturday.

I am interested in these being a monthly thing, as I am about to move to Philadelphia. (Hi!)

I'm in. Still kinda new around here, so hi everybody. I have a four player version of chess I've been meaning to break out if anyone's interested in giving it a try. Just don't ask me to explain it yet. It's still shrinkwrapped lol.
posted by Flashbullzeye at 6:21 PM on July 24, 2013

New folks, yay! Four player chess? Cool. I've played a version call Chess of the Four Seasons that is one of the old chess variants (like 13th century old).

Here a little early - they have all the windows open, so the breeze should keep game-playing interesting! I'm at the table just to the left of the door.
