Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival meetup?

Sat May 4 at 12:30 PM, Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival
2210 Howard County Fair Road, Howard County Fairground, West Friendship, MD, USA (Map & Directions)
Knitters, spinners, sheep-raisers: Are you planning to attend the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival on Saturday, May 4? Interested in getting together for a bite to eat?
Given the number of yarn-happy folks around here, I'm hoping that some of you will be attending the annual Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship. Would any of you like to meet up to check out the vendors and demonstrations? And/or to sit down and eat?

This will be my first visit after years of promising myself that I'll go, and I would love it if I could combine this event with meeting some of you Maryland/area MeFites!

I am not a spinner or sheep-raiser, and not much of a knitter, but this sounds very fun!

Hoping to attend this year after a while not myself. PIT LAMB, Y'ALL. Worth however long you have to wait for it.

I'm in- I know the last year I went ('10? '11ish? I t was BLAZING hot), there were no covered spaces to have a meetup, and going into the barns is madness. The best place is likely the hill beside the sheep show ring/behind a row of food vendors. I don't think there's a picnic-style lunching place, but anything can be improvised.

I would also gently suggest to those who are thinking of bringing kids (this is a fairly kid-friendly place and event, too): Please, either have another person to stroller-wrangle, or don't bring a stroller. They are a serious hazard in the barns. This isn't the biggest sheep & wool festival by square feet, but it is one of the busiest.

I do not knit, spin, or raise sheep, but eating is definitely relevant to my interests, and I have not done a craft or agricultural fair in awhile, so all that plus a meetup would work for me.

After talking to some of my MD Ag friends, I am definitely going to the festival.

Yay! Can we decide on a time/meeting spot closer to the date? Pit lamb sounds delicious!

Sheep & Wool is great - lots of fun. Lots of ag-fair food (slim pickings for vegetarians), but also there are artisan cheeses, live music, and a wide range of woolen items and other handicrafts. There are sheepdog events too, if the non-sheepy among us are interested in dogs.

I don't know whether I will be able to make it this year, but if I can, a meetup would be fun... will have a better sense as that weekend approaches.

I'll be there, mostly for the sheep petting, yarn buying and sheepdog watching. And the meeting upping, it seems.

Aww I'm going to the Gold Cup on that day, but I hope everyone has fun! It's a great festival.

Looks fun, but unfortunately is at the same time as the Kinetic Sculpture Race.

Oh, crud! My friend is having her going away party that day. Any chance we could do this on the Sunday?

Does Sunday work better for folks? I'll be in the area both days.

I could do Sunday.

Tell you what: I'll plan on being there both days at 12:30; let's meet on the hill beside the sheep show ring/behind a row of food vendors, as Hwin suggested. [If 12:30 doesn't work, I'm flexible.] Does that work for you guys?

Looking forward to seeing you!

Sunday at 12:30 sounds good to me. Now we just need some way to find each other. :)

It is looking like I won't be able to make it, booo. But have fun and let us know how it went!

Two words: Lamb gyro. Two more: Thanks, Mefites! Evadestruction, zennie, and youcancallmeal were all kind enough to come out for sheep shearing, sheepdog demonstrations, and awesomely lamb-themed fair food. Thank you, guys! Glad to have finally met you.

This was a lot of fun! And delicious. Apparently tromping around eating festival lamb and looking at fancy yarn was too much for me... I fell asleep when we got home ~5 pm and didn't wake up until 5 am!

Thanks for the idea, MonkeyToes!

The only thing I'm sorry about is that we didn't get to meet up with youcancallmeal. Another time I hope!

Thanks for suggesting it, MonkeyToes! It was great to meet you, and yeah, if anybody's thinking about checking out next year's Sheep and Wool Festival, it was a fun way to spend a gorgeous day.
