Sat March 2 at 8:00 PM, Root
200 Julia Street, New Orleans, LA, USA (Map & Directions)
I'm coming home - or close enough, and I want to meetup in New Orleans!
It went so well this time last year (though I don't remember much) I want to do it again. I'll definately be back by March, so I was thinking the first weekend - the first or the second. Meetup, dinner, drinks, then out in NO. Any takers?

Whoa, Root looks spectacular. I'm down.

Root is excellent! I'd be up for this (he says, brushing off the dust of the YEARS since his last MeFi post...)

I haven't been to Root yet, but it's on my to-eat list! I'm down! (Also, I fixed/added the Marigny tag)

I just went to Root for the first time a couple of days ago! I'd definitely be down to go again :)

Yesss. First weekend for sure, second weekend maybe hopefully. Cool.

Root looks great! I figured a later dinner, but we can change that as the time approaches.

Cure looks interesting, but is on Freret and Upperline, closer to Tulane.

I was not impressed on my one visit to Root but I'll go to Toups' Meatery any day of the week, any time that they're open - I mean, as long as we're talking meat.

As for Cure, I can never turn them down. Plus, I did the photography for their site so I'm supposed to be biased.

Forgot to mention - if you're looking for Cure-quality drinks but closer to downtown you should check out their sister bar Bellocq on Lee Circle.

I'll try to be there, and maybe drag Robert along if he's in town.

Fleur de Tease is at One Eyed Jacks at 8 pm and 10 pm that night. I'm considering it.

Fleur de Tease is great. If you're lucky, Trixie Minx will be performing.

Man, I haven't seen Fleur de Tease in a dog's age. Would definitely be a show worth attending. OEJ is a great venue, too.

Hey, so has anything been finalized yet?

All in favor of dinner at Root around 7PM followed by the 10PM Fleur de Tease show at OEJ? Should we make a reservation at Root if we are definitely going there?
posted by Scientist at 7:39 PM on February 24, 2013

I'll be on call that weekend. Looks like I won't make it.

I've made reservations for 8 pm for six people (at Root). They can be easily changed. My wife and I may mot be able to make earlier, as I have a rugby match. But if people want to start earlier, I have no objections. OEJ for the show sounds great to me.

OK, I'm definitely in for Root (the man of twists and turns, I think we met last year at the Roosevelt/Sazerac Bar meetup), but prolly not OEJ. Do we need to increase the RSVP?

Barcadia, 601 Tchoupitoulas Street.
Hunh.

ok, how does 7 pm at Root sound? I can call tomorrow and move the reservation up.

7pm at Root works for me. I have mixed feelings on Barcadia - went there very recently with some friends, and they don't totally have their act together in terms of bar/food setup, and a lot of the games eat your money. It's an awesome concept but the execution seems to have a lot of growing pains.

Apparently a very popular restaurant - no tables were avalable any earlier. 8 pm it is!

Root at 8 works for me- I'll update if my plans change.

I thought I would be out of town, but looks like I will be here after all.
We probably can't make dinner, but Nibbly Fang and I can probably make it out to OEJ.

Hey everyone, not going to make it tonight due to feeling under the weather and things not getting any better as the day progresses. Would love to hear what y'all think of Root. Have fun!

Ok. Look for the man in the green Roughriders hat.
posted by the man of twists and turns at 4:27 PM on March 2, 2013

I'll be the guy with the curly ponytail who's all in black except for his hat. (Felt like dressing up just a little for the show.) Heading out now.

Hey guys, I won't be making it out tonight- sorry! Enjoy Root :)

Well, I'm here. Anyone else here? What's the reservation under?
posted by Scientist at 6:13 PM on March 2, 2013

Twist and I are here, just talk to the hostess to find us!
posted by Scientist at 6:34 PM on March 2, 2013

Well, dinner was excellent - I recommend Root to anyone who likes food like hanger steak and something called "face bacon."
