Thu December 6 at 6:00 PM, Angel's Trumpet Ale House
810 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ, USA (Map & Directions)
Hey all, so I'm relatively new to the Phoenix area and would love to chill with the local mefites. How about a mid-week happy hour? ok. How's everyone with next Thursday, 12/6, at Angel's Trumpet at 6pm?

Welcome! That sounds great to me. Pick a day and time and I'll be there in my blue MeFi shirt

Oh, yay! I'm thrilled at the idea of a PHX gathering. I'm not a big fan of Arizona Center; I'd suggest something more along the lines of Angels Trumpet, but I'll go wherever to meet fellow Mefites.

Though I've lived here a year, I still feel like a newcomer to Phoenix and I'd love to have a meetup!

I live near Angels Trumpet but haven't gotten the chance to go, so I'm seconding that. It's always packed when I've gone by, though, and crazy noisy—has it calmed down, Superplin? We could always escape to FilmBar across the street. (Crap, now I've introduced a third option. Feels like hijacking!)

Welcome to Phoenix, glad you proposed a meetup!

I'm not new to Phoenix (5.5 year vet, at this point, and hopefully leaving soon), but I would still like to meet the MetaLocals. I'm down for Filmbar -- agree that Arizona Center is kind of meh, but would go for it. Don't know Angel's Trumpet; Lost Leaf is another thing that comes to mind in that general neighborhood..

Depending on when / where, I'd be game. Heard good things about Angel's Trumpet... I could totally be convinced to drink a beer with you guys after work.

I think it's pretty hit or miss, so having the escape valve of FilmBar (or Rum Bar) makes for a good fallback option. I like Lost Leaf, but they don't serve food, so if we wanted to nosh we'd have to go to Nachobot or Jobot next door.

I'm hoping that midweek, things will be fairly calm. And that we can take advantage of the patio weather!

The best days for me next week are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. According to my calendar, Wednesday is Phoestivus downtown, so things may be more crowded than usual. On the other hand, it could also be fun to check out, so I'll leave the decision to the rest of you.

Ok: just for the sake of making a decision, how about Angel's Trumpet at 6 pm on Thursday the 29th? Sound good?

I hope I can make it. Never heard of Angel's Trumpet but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Great! It's finally cool enough that I can walk there without heatstroke. No guarantees I won't still be a sweaty mess—I'm really built for snowy climes. So, I'll be the unreasonably warm looking one, I guess.

Excellent. This is my first Metafilter meetup, even though I've been a member since 2001. I'm excited!

And I will definitely need a beer by 6 pm next Thursday, so bonus.

Since I've never done this before: do we need to create a new event, to get a semi-official head count and make sure it's visible to anyone else who might want to come? Or is this thread sufficient?

Ugh, NEXT Thursday (Dec 6) I could do; this Thursday I have plans. :( I was reading "next" as "the one after this one," not "the one coming up." Mea culpa -- hope y'all have fun!
posted by Alterscape at 7:45 AM on November 28, 2012

Oh, I was reading it that way, too! Although I could probably do both.

Native-not-newb here; I can't make it either, but yay for having a meetup! first time I've gotten an email from IRL, that's handy. Next one maybe!
posted by Chris4d at 9:29 AM on November 28, 2012

I can make it tomorrow, but I'm bummed to hear that two of you guys can't make it. I also can do Thursday the 6th, if that means more of us could come, any chance we could make that work? I have no idea what the protocol for the Metafilter IRL stuff is, so I apologize if I'm making it way too complicated!

So, work has conspired to make it impossible for me to come today. But since the official meetup date appears to be next Thursday, no power on this earth will keep me away then.

I will not be denied craft beer with mefites.

Boo! I have to work! And I've always wanted to go to a meet-up. We should do another one soon.

Frack, I have a work holiday party on the 6th (and generally I run with my running group Thursday nights). Any other weeknight is an easy win for me.

Shall we schedule an additional December date?
posted by khedron at 9:29 PM on November 29, 2012

I would be down for another December date, or early January. I'm out of town the Dec 20 - Jan 3rd, but otherwise, I should be around. Looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks tomorrow!

Well, I'm here, at the end of the bar in my green mefi shirt. Hope to see some of you.

Ugh, so, public apology. There's a big event in my department at ASU tomorrow, and I had to help some of my students set up. I thought I'd be free by 5, and then.. not. All that stuff wraps up tomorrow night, though, so hopefully I'll be more free for the next one (if there is a next one).
