Philadelphia Monthly Board Game Meetup

Sun December 9 at 2:00 PM, Frankford Hall
1210 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, PA, USA (Map & Directions)
Let's get in one more board game meetup before the holidays!
At our last meetup, it sounded like December 9 was the best date for everyone there. We'll stick with Frankford Hall as the venue since it has been working out really well so far.

As always: Newcomers very welcome! No knowledge of board games required! Bring games if you have them!

I had a great time on Sunday and look forward to playing with everyone again. As far as days, the 2nd, 9th, 15th or 16th work best for me.

I can make the 9th or 16th (I'm already planning to be in town on the 16th for a show).

The 9th, 15th and 16th would work for me.

The 9th is by far the best day for me. The 16th is out, I'll be in DE for a wedding, and the 2nd I probably would have to skip because it precedes my last week of classes.

The 9th would be the best for me. The 8th is doable, but I'd have to make sure to leave in time for a movie at 7 (IHouse are showing Godard's Weekend! eeeee). Ditto the 15th, though that's a bit easier (Lucio Fulci double feature at 8).

The 16th is right out, though- I'll be at the Locust Moon comics festival all day.

Oh, and if enough people are interested, I think I might try printing up a set of Cards Against Humanity.

Merzbau - I've got Cards Against Humanity, and was planning on bringing it :)

Awesome! Let's do this >:)

Confirmed for Dec. 9! See you all then!

(And Merzbau, thanks for pointing out the Godard at I-House thing! I keep forgetting to check their calendar. I'll plan on going there too!)

Excellent. If anyone has any game requests, let me know.

Hi everyone. I'm SpiffyRob. You can call me Spiffy. Or Rob. Or, you know, SpiffyRob.

I have been a regular attendee at Chicago meetups for the past five years, but I'm very much moving to Philadelphia next month. Diskeater noticed this in another thread, so I figured I'd drop by and say "hey."

Hey.

I won't be able to come to this one, or, most likely, any others before January (moving 12/15 and jumping right into job/holidays) but I would definitely like to meet you all as soon thereafter as possible.

References available upon request.

I MOVED HERE FROM CHICAGO LET'S BE FRIENDS.

That's weird... I also moved to Philadelphia from Chicago (back in 2009)

I also moved here from Chicago in 2009! And I know we have at least one other Philly meetup regular who has lived in Chicago. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE

It is a sign that it is meant to be. And it is.

I am totally going to be all up in your meetup threads between now and when I actually start coming to them. Consider yourselves warned.

Hello SpiffyRob! Jessypie and Jetlagaddict have taken the helm of organizing the bulk of the Philly and Philly-area meetups so now they happen on a somewhat regular basis. You'll have to let us know when you're settled so we can have a proper "Welcome to Philly" meetup for you.

Late January is probably gonna be the best time. But if one comes up before then that I happen to be free during, I will totally come!
posted by SpiffyRob at 12:41 PM on November 29, 2012

I am SpiffyRob's wife and I am also moving to Philly (but not until mid-January)! I don't go to meetups as often as my man, but that's because this little dude demands a lot of attention and the meetups in Chicago are all the way downtown and I am too lazy for that shit (I'm super excited about moving a smaller city).

Anywho, I just wanted to chime in and say "ME TOO! ME TOO!"

I would be all over a late-January "welcome the Spiffy's to Philly" meetup. And we have plenty of time to figure out what to do!

I propose a "Sit on the Floor and Drink all the Yuengling I Couldn't Have for the Past Five Years" theme.

Spiffy - I like the way you think!
posted by MikeKn at 5:57 AM on November 30, 2012

That's the theme for the party I'm throwing this weekend since I accidentally ordered the wrong size keg. But "having too much Yuengling" is not a bad problem to have.
posted by Diskeater at 6:21 AM on November 30, 2012

It is certainly preferable to having none, which has been (barring the occasional trip east) the story of my life for the past half decade.

Philadelphia seems to be a sweet spot for all my favorite beers though! Yuengling, of course, Long Trail from my New England days, and Great Lakes from the midwest. Huzzah!

Though it seems like you guys don't get Bell's Brewery. True? False? Sad if so, but I'll live.
posted by SpiffyRob at 1:55 PM on November 30, 2012

FALSE. You can get Bell's out here. Bell's Oarsman is one of my summertime standbys.

TREMENDOUS.

It looks like a friend will be tagging along with me! And this time I don't have to work in the morning so I plan to get there on time for a change.

Hey guys, we might have a bit of a crowding issue today- it's apparently the day that Beer Santa comes to town, and Frankford Hall is packed with families. I managed to snag the only unoccupied table (immediately to the left of the door as you enter), and hopefully it'll clear up soon- the signs all say the family event is over at 3.

Awesome time once again, Philly people! A special welcome goes to upplepop as this was his first meetup ever. Hopefully we didn't scare you away.

Big thanks to Jessypie for kicking off and organizing these meetups. I've wanted to get a board game group together ever since I moved to the city and combining that with Metafilter has made this nerd very happy. Here's to more board games in 2013!
