Spokane Ln, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA (Map & Directions)
*****CANCELLED: The Greenwald talk has been cancelled. We'll have a meetup another time.******
Glenn Greenwald is speaking at the University of Washington on civil liberties erosion, on Thursday April 5th at 7:00pm. Perhaps it would be fun to attend the event and then head to the Avenue for drinks after? Here is a link to the event
I've lived in Seattle for a year and haven't met any MeFites yet. It seems like we're due for a meetup (Especially since there appears to be one in PDX about every weekend and I get those IRL memails and feel sad when they are not here). I do not drink on the Ave very often; but I have been to Flowers before and enjoyed it so I nominate that as a possible post-talk destination. I hope to defer to the expertise of others in this matter.
I'm afraid it's not clear to me from the link — is the lecture free of charge? I think I'm rather likely to go, if that's the case. I haven't been to Flowers in years, but support it as a post-talk venue as well.

Sounds interesting! I might be able to come, if I'm not buried in schoolwork by that point.

Based on my previous experience with lectures of this type at other universities, I think that it's pretty likely that the lecture is free of charge, but I can't tell for sure either. Greenwald has said on his blog that he will give more information about the visit in a future post; if I can't figure it out from that, I'll call someone at the university.

Shultzy's Sausage was the site of a previous, very successful meetup in that area.

I checked the lecture link and saw clear indications that it's free.

Yep, under the full details tab is written "Price: free".
I'd like to come, but I won't know until that day whether I will be able to leave work early enough.

So what's the status on this? Me and my SO are planning to attend if it's still on, but I may be there slightly late. Where/when/how are people meeting?

parrot_person, I will be there (though my non-mefite wife has bailed out) and would still get together with anyone who plans to attend. I don't know the campus very well and don't know if there is a good landmark to meet at near the venue.

Ah, I won't be there tonight after all, I'm afraid. It's been... a week.

It appears that the event has been cancelled at the last minute.

It seems like attendance was going to be pretty low anyway. Hopefully we can have a meetup with more participants soon.

This makes 2 out of 2 mefi meetups I was going to attend that have been cancelled at the last minute. Dunno if I'm going to want to carve time out of my schedule anymore. :-(
