Front Range Meetup?

My first meetup was fun. Let's do it again. In Denver. Or Boulder. Or Castle Rock.
Perhaps the week of the 21st? At a place that serves beer?

Denver or Boulder is OK, weekends/Fridays preferred but other days might work.
and, amazingly enough, I plan to actually be in town.

I'm just moving into Denver. Looking for a spot and job. To that end, a meetup would be pretty cool.
posted by killtheliterate at 6:34 AM on March 8, 2011

I'm mostly open those weeks (and both Fridays, 18th and 25th) and will try to come.
posted by cyndigo at 7:43 AM on March 8, 2011

Boulder is better for me as I'm relying on public transportation. I'm here until April 5th so anytime in March is fine (except this upcoming weekend).
posted by Kattullus at 11:20 AM on March 8, 2011

yes! yes! yes!

of course as you all know I will always shamelessly lobby for Boulder, mainly because there's a better than even chance we'd get mr. lfr to join, but I have an Eco Pass and a fixie and I ain't afraid to use both.

If we do vote Denver, I would like to request that we stick to the LoDo/Golden Triangle area or at least near enough for me to be within a ten minute bike ride of there.

a ten minute bike ride from LoDo for me roughly encompasses Capitol Hill, Highlands, Five Points, the near end of City Park (aka Vine/York) and the near end of the Baker District.

Another vote for Boulder here (it was Denver last time, yes?) and for the next one, I'm willing to head south towards Castle Rock....
posted by cyndigo at 2:33 PM on March 8, 2011

I'm free early the week of the 21st. I'd prefer Denver since I'd be busing it to Boulder, but it's not a strong preference.
posted by heurtebise at 4:05 PM on March 8, 2011

I'm probably down.

Boulder's easiest for me, but I too have an Eco Pass and two-wheeled transport.
posted by brennen at 8:26 PM on March 8, 2011

Week of the 21st is good for me! Normally I'd prefer Boulder, but it'll be Spring Break that week which mean I'll be spending all of my time in Aurora running experiments. I can still do Boulder, but I live in Golden and Denver would be way more convenient.
posted by scrutiny at 7:46 AM on March 9, 2011

Ahhh, I'm out of town all that week. Boo.
posted by peachfuzz at 1:45 PM on March 9, 2011

but! -t will be here...
posted by peachfuzz at 1:55 PM on March 9, 2011

I might be up for Boulder or Denver.
posted by -t at 2:01 PM on March 9, 2011

Oh man, your making me look bad.
posted by -t at 2:02 PM on March 9, 2011

Another vote for public transportation accessible (Boulder counts) mostly just to be snobs about it.
posted by 7segment at 2:24 PM on March 9, 2011

tentatively in. Denver I can drink more because it's all bus (yay public transit) but I think I'll be working in downtown Boulder both those Fridays.
posted by ansate at 9:52 AM on March 10, 2011

Denver is ok for me, as I'd be coming up from the Springs, but Boulder's beyond my "just for shits" radius.
posted by Emperor SnooKloze at 5:10 PM on March 10, 2011

Is there a tradition of alternating south, Denver, north?
posted by cyndigo at 9:37 AM on March 11, 2011

I could probably make any day but the 21st.
posted by dr. fresh at 9:39 AM on March 11, 2011

killtheliterate, are you in town the week of the 21st? If not, when do you get in?

I think it's Boulder's turn, though I hate to lose the at least two from the Springs.

I don't know where to drink and sit at the same time in Boulder.

If we do Denver, LoDo seems to be the winner.
posted by freshwater at 6:15 PM on March 11, 2011

I don't know where to drink and sit at the same time in Boulder.

Not always as easy a question to answer as it should be, especially if you've got a big group.

Both Suns (Mountain and Southern) are good, if they're not absolutely packed, but they're usually absolutely packed.

Backcountry Pizza just opened on Arapahoe & Folsom-ish and has a pretty impressive tap list.

The Dark Horse is sort of cavernously large and right on the south end of town.

Anyhow, yeah, if it's Denver LoDo sounds like it'll work...
posted by brennen at 5:17 PM on March 12, 2011

Both Backcountry Pizza and Dark Horse have good spaces for groups, and Backcountry is new enough to (perhaps) not be insanely crowded on a weekend.
posted by cyndigo at 8:22 PM on March 12, 2011

The Dark Horse looks good! And I'm not just saying that because it's within staggering-home-drunk distance :)
posted by Kattullus at 12:05 PM on March 13, 2011

The 18th through the 21st as well as the 23rd work for me, and I can also make it to either Boulder or Denver.
posted by McBearclaw at 8:11 AM on March 14, 2011

Backcountry pizza is amazing as far as beer selection goes. I went there for the first time the other day and was quite pleased. Their pizza is also good. However, I'm not sure how easy it is to get there via public transportation, especially at night.

It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the boulder transit center if people are interested, however I'd still prefer denver so we could get some Springs folk in. I'm always up for Falling Rock.
posted by scrutiny at 11:28 AM on March 14, 2011

The Dark Horse is walking distance from Chez LFR, never been to Backcountry Pizza (yet). IMO the DH is a little bit on the seedy end of the "college hangout" genre, but I'm ok with that. It is, afterall, roughly 50 feet from the giant CU dorm array on 30th/Baseline, so there is that :)

scrutiny, I am always up for Falling Rock. I'm agnostic as to Boulder/Denver, tho if we do Denver the chances of mr. lfr attending fall to roughly zero (I'm okay with that too, he's a bit of a grumpy introvert, homebody.

we shall be out of town on a Moab trip from 24th-27th, in case anyone cares.
posted by lonefrontranger at 3:03 PM on March 14, 2011

Alright, I'm actually going to have to bow out of this one. I've got too many subjects scheduled now to really think about attending. I'm basically running experiments straight from 8am to somewhere around 7:30/9:00 pm Monday through Thursday so going out isn't really an option any more. This is a sad thing.

However, I miss hanging out though so I'll try and propose a meetup sometime within a month. I don't really like waiting so long in between these things you know :)
posted by scrutiny at 7:06 PM on March 14, 2011

Please do, scrutiny. Personally I'd love to go to two meetups before I leave Colorado on April 5th.
posted by Kattullus at 7:31 PM on March 14, 2011

Yay scrutiny! Let's do two meetups!! We can get a Boulder date in and then another down in Denver in a month or so.
posted by freshwater at 6:31 AM on March 15, 2011

Ok, here's the second meetup! I made it assuming that the first meetup would be in Boulder, but if the first one is in Denver, then we should switch the second to Boulder.
posted by scrutiny at 8:39 AM on March 15, 2011

Yay, Boulder and Denver! So, are Fridays generally best? 18th or 25th? Someone who is not me (because it's my first meetup) please pull the trigger and set a time and place....
posted by cyndigo at 4:43 PM on March 15, 2011

I've looked through all the responses and I see lots of Denver or Boulder (with a preference for xxx), I only see one deal killer and that's for Boulder.

It seems to me that everybody is at least willing to go to Denver which seems like consensus to me.

As for the date, it's a little less clear. The 21st is out and some people have implied that the end of the week is bad. Would this Friday the 18th work for everybody?

Is the Falling Rock ok or is there another place?
posted by Confess, Fletch at 6:58 PM on March 15, 2011

Since there's a second meetup planned for Boulder OR Denver, is there a problem with having one in Boulder? I'm happy to go to Denver OR South, but it would be nice if they could alternate a bit.
posted by cyndigo at 7:04 PM on March 15, 2011

howdy, I think scrutiny is saying we'll do the 2nd one in Denver (Falling Rock) we are just waiting for someone to confirm a date for the Dark Horse in Boulder, like, soon-ish?

stop me if I'm misinterpreting this...
posted by lonefrontranger at 7:56 PM on March 15, 2011

ahh, I hadn't read the part II one. Boulder it is...I apologize for the confusion
posted by Confess, Fletch at 9:14 PM on March 15, 2011

Okay . . . 21st through the 23rd? Preferences?
posted by freshwater at 6:06 PM on March 16, 2011

21st is marginally the best for me, but it's not like I can't shuffle things around if other dates are better for the majority.
posted by Kattullus at 7:53 PM on March 16, 2011

I'm in on any of those dates.
posted by cyndigo at 2:26 PM on March 17, 2011

So the 21st, then?
posted by cyndigo at 3:08 PM on March 18, 2011

indecision is the key to flexibility

yeah, the 21st id fine...
posted by Confess, Fletch at 4:03 PM on March 18, 2011

Well, I can make it on the 21st, if that works for everybody else.
posted by koeselitz at 4:24 PM on March 19, 2011

21st works here. (I am pretty much sure.)
posted by brennen at 5:00 PM on March 19, 2011

OK, Monday the 21st it is ... what time, and are we still thinking Dark Horse?
posted by cyndigo at 5:10 PM on March 19, 2011

7pm would be good for me... I've gotta be in bed before too long, so I'd love to have time to see everybody.
posted by koeselitz at 8:02 PM on March 20, 2011

Tomorrow 7pm at the Dark Horse. Anyone gonna second me?
posted by Kattullus at 10:10 PM on March 20, 2011

I'll be there. If the area around the fireplace is free shall we try there, or upstairs? What is the MeFi sekrit sign?
posted by cyndigo at 10:52 PM on March 20, 2011

Well, the MeFi sekrit greeting is: Hello, are you from the internet?

This is a recent picture and still basically look the same.
posted by Kattullus at 11:36 PM on March 20, 2011

Okay, I may make it.

koeselitz, lfr, nails, luke?

talk + IRL + 2 separate meetups = confusing
posted by -t at 12:21 AM on March 21, 2011

Yes, confusing. I posted tonight's separately with map, since it's no longer "proposed." Will def be there and will try to bring Mr. Cyndigo unless it's just me and Kattullus.
posted by cyndigo at 11:36 AM on March 21, 2011

Can't make the one tonight, but I think I'll be at the April Fools-day in Denver. I'd love to see y'all!
posted by lukemeister at 1:27 PM on March 21, 2011

I will definitely be there. And it sounds like the inimitable mustard seeds will be there, too. Why not? Come on down, everybody. 'Twill be fun.
posted by koeselitz at 2:48 PM on March 21, 2011

Cyndigo and Brennan and I are here! We're in the back corner next to the fireplace...
