Front Range Meetup?
posted March 7, 2011 3:00 PM RSS
My first meetup was fun. Let's do it again. In Denver. Or Boulder. Or Castle Rock.
Perhaps the week of the 21st? At a place that serves beer?
I'm just moving into Denver. Looking for a spot and job. To that end, a meetup would be pretty cool.

I'm mostly open those weeks (and both Fridays, 18th and 25th) and will try to come.

Boulder is better for me as I'm relying on public transportation. I'm here until April 5th so anytime in March is fine (except this upcoming weekend).

yes! yes! yes!
of course as you all know I will always shamelessly lobby for Boulder, mainly because there's a better than even chance we'd get mr. lfr to join, but I have an Eco Pass and a fixie and I ain't afraid to use both.
If we do vote Denver, I would like to request that we stick to the LoDo/Golden Triangle area or at least near enough for me to be within a ten minute bike ride of there.
a ten minute bike ride from LoDo for me roughly encompasses Capitol Hill, Highlands, Five Points, the near end of City Park (aka Vine/York) and the near end of the Baker District.

Another vote for Boulder here (it was Denver last time, yes?) and for the next one, I'm willing to head south towards Castle Rock....

I'm free early the week of the 21st. I'd prefer Denver since I'd be busing it to Boulder, but it's not a strong preference.

Boulder's easiest for me, but I too have an Eco Pass and two-wheeled transport.

Week of the 21st is good for me! Normally I'd prefer Boulder, but it'll be Spring Break that week which mean I'll be spending all of my time in Aurora running experiments. I can still do Boulder, but I live in Golden and Denver would be way more convenient.

Another vote for public transportation accessible (Boulder counts) mostly just to be snobs about it.

tentatively in. Denver I can drink more because it's all bus (yay public transit) but I think I'll be working in downtown Boulder both those Fridays.

killtheliterate, are you in town the week of the 21st? If not, when do you get in?
I think it's Boulder's turn, though I hate to lose the at least two from the Springs.
I don't know where to drink and sit at the same time in Boulder.
If we do Denver, LoDo seems to be the winner.

Not always as easy a question to answer as it should be, especially if you've got a big group.
Both Suns (Mountain and Southern) are good, if they're not absolutely packed, but they're usually absolutely packed.
Backcountry Pizza just opened on Arapahoe & Folsom-ish and has a pretty impressive tap list.
The Dark Horse is sort of cavernously large and right on the south end of town.
Anyhow, yeah, if it's Denver LoDo sounds like it'll work...

Both Backcountry Pizza and Dark Horse have good spaces for groups, and Backcountry is new enough to (perhaps) not be insanely crowded on a weekend.

Backcountry pizza is amazing as far as beer selection goes. I went there for the first time the other day and was quite pleased. Their pizza is also good. However, I'm not sure how easy it is to get there via public transportation, especially at night.
It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the boulder transit center if people are interested, however I'd still prefer denver so we could get some Springs folk in. I'm always up for Falling Rock.

The Dark Horse is walking distance from Chez LFR, never been to Backcountry Pizza (yet). IMO the DH is a little bit on the seedy end of the "college hangout" genre, but I'm ok with that. It is, afterall, roughly 50 feet from the giant CU dorm array on 30th/Baseline, so there is that :)
scrutiny, I am always up for Falling Rock. I'm agnostic as to Boulder/Denver, tho if we do Denver the chances of mr. lfr attending fall to roughly zero (I'm okay with that too, he's a bit of agrumpy introvert ...er, homebody.
we shall be out of town on a Moab trip from 24th-27th, in case anyone cares.

Alright, I'm actually going to have to bow out of this one. I've got too many subjects scheduled now to really think about attending. I'm basically running experiments straight from 8am to somewhere around 7:30/9:00 pm Monday through Thursday so going out isn't really an option any more. This is a sad thing.
However, I miss hanging out though so I'll try and propose a meetup sometime within a month. I don't really like waiting so long in between these things you know :)

I've looked through all the responses and I see lots of Denver or Boulder (with a preference for xxx), I only see one deal killer and that's for Boulder.
It seems to me that everybody is at least willing to go to Denver which seems like consensus to me.
As for the date, it's a little less clear. The 21st is out and some people have implied that the end of the week is bad. Would this Friday the 18th work for everybody?
Is the Falling Rock ok or is there another place?

Since there's a second meetup planned for Boulder OR Denver, is there a problem with having one in Boulder? I'm happy to go to Denver OR South, but it would be nice if they could alternate a bit.
