Happy new year everyone!
It's been a long time since we've had a meetup; it would be cool to see everyone again! Anyone interested?
I'd be down! Just moved to Calgary this past summer and it'd be lovely to meet y'all.

I'd certainly be interested! I'm good evenings/weekends.

We definitely gotta get angiep in the mix! We've missed you the last couple meetups. I suggest we shoot for a Saturday :)

I'd love to come, depending on timing. Saturdays should work.

I would be interested but it depends on the location as I don't drive. Saturdays would be ok.

Calzephyr, depending on geography and timing, it may be possible to give you a lift if needed.

Central on Saturday sounds plausible to me! I can do daytime on the 19th,any time on the 12th or 26th.

I've been in Calgary for ages now but still haven't been out to a YYC meetup. I'm likely not good on the 12th unless we're meeting somewhere north-y, but the 19th and 26th should be fine.

Feb 9 can work. The home reno show is this weekend and I'd hate to miss that.
Nubs, thanks for the offer :) I'll let you know.

OK, let's pencil in Feb 9 in the evening! Seems like a promising evening. I'll confirm it up if we have a consensus :)

I'm downtown, so I'd prefer something relatively central. Other than that, I'm pretty easy - maybe a board game cafe somewhere?

Board game cafes have been pretty successful for us in the past. Usually quiet enough you can converse, and if we need an icebreaker, we can grab a game.

Yep, agreed; works really well for this type of gathering. I'm down!
So far we've hit Boxcar and Hexagon. I've enjoyed both (though Boxcar is my personal fave of the two so far :). Both are pretty central as well. Any other must-see cafes that have popped up as of late we should check out?
I suppose if at least one person brings a deck of cards or something, we can go pretty much anywhere. Kensington Pub chess tournament?

I'm another person in favour of a boardgame cafe. You folks choose. But I'm guessing it will be easier to find parking in Kensington, so that would be my vote. I would also be up for a daytime event, rather than in the evening, but I'll follow the herd.

As I recall, the parking around Boxcar was a bit of a challenge, though parking in Kensington can be fraught too - though it is a bit more transit accessible, I think, with the train a few block away.
Outside of those two, the only other ones I'm aware of start moving away from the core pretty quick - Metal Galaxy is down MacLeod; Pips is in the Marda Loop area, and Shoebox is up on McKnight. I've only ever been to Boxcar & Hexagon, so I have no idea what any of others are like and if they are worth moving away from a central location - though if they make it easier for some folks to attend, that might be worth considering.

Well, parking at Boxcar won't be a problem, as it's now a tattoo place, and Pips is gone too :(. Hexagon works fine for me, though, and they've got a nice big space.

My wife: so, what did the Metafilter people talk about?
Me: you know. Electrocution, mostly.

Definitely. As suggested on the night, a fair-weather meetup would be awesome. My backyard just happens to have both a BBQ and a ping-pong table (left behind by previous roomies) so if nothing else you guys are welcome over for burgers and table tennis once it's warm enough. Having a meetup at someone's place was angiep's idea though, so I defer to her if she's still keen to host.
