Thu October 12 at 6:30 PM, The Blackstone Grill
15 Union St, Boston, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
So last time the sound at Joe Sent Me was back to, well basically nonexistent. Do we want to give them one more shot this Wednesday, or try someplace else on Wednesday or Thursday? UPDATE: Let’s try The Blackstone Grill on Thursday. Trivia starts at 7pm, so shoot for 6:30.
If I recall, several people had conflicts with Tuesdays? The Geeks Who Drink lineup for Wednesday and Thursday is thus:

Wednesday
Joe Sent Me (Cambridge) (Cambridge) 8:00 PM
Longboards Restaurant and Bar (Salem) 8:00 PM
Medusa Brewing Company (Hudson) 7:30 PM
Phoenix Landing (Cambridge) 7:30 PM
Shenannigans (Boston) 7:00 PM
The Jeanie Johnston (Jamaica Plain) 8:00 PM
The Pub (Somerville) (Somerville) 8:30 PM
White Horse Tavern (Allston) 8:00 PM

Thursday
Brew Practitioners LLC (Florence) 7:30 PM
Cronin's Publick House (Quincy) 8:00 PM
Hugh O'Neill's (Malden) 7:30 PM
Springdale Barrel Room (Framingham) 7:00 PM
The Asgard (Cambridge) 9:00 PM
The Blackstone Grill (Boston) 7:00 PM

I could do Thursday at the Asgard.

Either Wednesday or Thursday works for me. I can get to most places in Cambridge/Somerville, and T-accessible places in Boston, but I don't have a car so other suburby stuff wouldn't work for me.

If people are seriously considering places like Salem and Framingham, then let me put out there that the Joe Sent Me in Waltham also does trivia on Wed. nights. Sound was ok the one time I went (we usually do the Gaff on Monday nights). I mean, if I were myself in Cambridge or Boston, I wouldn't be super interested in trekking out here (which is conversely why I haven't come to the one in Cambridge), but heck it's a quicker train ride than either Salem or F'ham (there are several bus options, too, which can be nicer on the off hours if you're near one of their pick up points).

Oh my bad, I didn't catch that the Geeks Who Drink is a third party thing, I just figured it was what the MeFi quiz crew called themselves!

So I just copied and pasted the whole list from the website, bc I’m too lazy to edit on my iPad. I was not necessarily suggesting we go to Framingham!

The other option is to explore non-GeeksWhoDrink trivia, although stump trivia generally kinda sucks. Aeronaut has an indie trivia, but it appears to be on Tuesdays.

Ahh, good, because Florence appears to be part of Northhampton, which is a bit of a hike for a weeknight from Boston.

(I obviously vote for The Pub.)

Ugh The Pub.

What about Phoenix Landing? I’ve never been there, but it’s in Central Sq so it shouldn’t be too hard to get to.

There's an independent trivia at The Druid in Inman on Wednesdays.

I was joking about Hudson of course. I may try to start coming to trivia again once baby stuff becomes gets slightly less insane. Would prefer somerville/cambridge with plausible parking options, but dont plan around me.

If there is a critical mass of folks in the western suburbs interested in trivia, that would be interesting to know...

The Pub would be fine, but that's mostly because it's easy walking distance from our apartment. Phoenix Landing is probably the best combination of timing and location/accessibility. I'd also be up for trying independent trivia somewhere.

Also, I know we've been avoiding Tuesdays, but do people actually have conflicts on Tuesday? If not, we could go back to The Rising, or try out the independent trivia at Aeronaut.

I thought you had a conflict on Tuesdays? And maybe somebody else? I don’t have any issues with Tuesdays in general, but I thought when The Rising announced the change of nights several people had issues.

Tuesdays are the best for me. Weds and Thurs are usually questionable. Just in general – I am suspicious of Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I have a conflict on Tuesdays so trivia on that day would not be workable for me. You will have to choose whether you love not_on_display or me more.

I’d like to give Blackstone Grill a try.

I don’t think we can get to the Blackstone early since trivia starts at 7 there. Can someone who lives/works in Boston volunteer to get there early to hold table(s)? We could try that this week.

I could go there early, it's a 5 minute walk from my work.

I'd be up for trying The Druid also.

Can't make it this particular Thursday, but if it works out I'll make it to the next one!

For future triviaing, I love the Druid's food and ambiance. But it's so tiny that the normal number of Taters would take up about half the pub. Still willing to try it though.

Can't do Thursday myself, either.
posted by Diablevert at 3:49 PM on October 11, 2017

Oh man, in Boston proper! If it keeps up, I'll try to make it!

Can't make tonight, but happy to go downtown or elsewhere next time.
