Mefi after eclipse Carbondale meetup

Mon August 21 at 3:00 PM, Turley Park — Meet near the fountain
Lenus Turley Park, Carbondale, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
Meet with Mefites after the solar eclipse on the 21st in Carbondale IL at Turley Park from 3-5pm-ish for picnic snacks, socializing and general mefi weirdness. Follow-up to this IRL proposed event
Because there are so many options for what people may want to be doing during the eclipse I've decided to move the social meet-up time to a little bit after the celestial event. Feel free to coordinate with others for shared eclipse viewing plans in this thread, though. There will be a Latin music concert in the park from 11am-3pm while the eclipse is happening and the meet-up will start right after the concert is over.
Let me know if I forgot any details!

Turley park is about 3 miles from the stadium. Would it help to push the time to something later?

FYI it looks like the location for this meetup is listen as someone's home address, not Turley Park.
We are staying up by Oakdale park and don't really have firm plans yet, so we can hopefully walk or bike to Turley Park at any time.

We're very likely to head back to DC shortly after the event but I'm staying tuned in here in case plans change.

Maybe? But I have no idea what to expect re: crowds leaving campus, and me and my friends are visiting from the NYC area and know nothing about Greater Carbondale. It would help more if we met somewhere in walking distance -- maybe in the college town surrounding the campus?

Fixed the map location. Unfortunately the SIU Stadium is on the edge of town so there's not a whole lot that is within a reasonable walking distance from it.

There will apparently be shuttles to and from the stadium, if that helps. It looks like it's a one mile walk from the city end of the shuttle route on Walnut St. to the park.

Is anyone coming from the Bloomington-Normal area on the day of? I'd like to be in Carbondale to see it, yet don't have a ride.

OK, so we arrive in Carbondale tomorrow, me and my friends will check the map of the bus routes and loosely plan our eclipse day. I know for sure I don't want to drive following the eclipse, so our attendance depends on whether we'll be able/willing to walk the mile from the end of the route to Turley Gazebo.

Our plan right now is to walk down to Turley park after the eclipse so it will likely be close to 330-345 before we get there. We'll be shopping for food in Louisville before we drive in on Sunday - anything in particular we should grab for the picnic? We have a small soft-sided cooler.

Some of us are here, at a picnic table by the fountain.
