Mancunia beckons

I think it's high time we had another Mefi meetup in my beloved burg of Manchester. What say you? Where say you? When say you?

Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

What: given use of the "beer" tag, I am unlikely to turn it down.

Where: I liked the Briton's Protection last time there was a Manc meetup, but mainly because it's a lot closer to the Metrolink than MeFi's other favourite location, the Marble Arch.

When: a Friday or Saturday night is best - except I can't make the 29th Jan or the 11th or 19th of Feb.

Common are opening a new beer-centric bar on Port st, which may be an exciting new venue. Otherwise voting for the Marble Arch, because it also has excellent food. And possibly the Marble on Thomas St. for the huge beer range.

Friday nights may be hectic for both, though an extended saturday may be delightful.

Jofus owes us.

Somewhere in the Northern Quarter sounds pretty good, actually. Easy access on the tram from both north and south Manchester, and close to Piccadilly for people coming in on the train. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Marble on Thomas Street a bit tiny, and ridiculously busy on the weekend? Standing room only is double plus ungood, in my opinion.

I may make it for a saturday afternoon show, but as it's 4+h on the train from deepest darkest wales and i'm über busy don't plan around me.

That said, easy reach from man pic would be ace, blah blah trains blah blah 4h blah blah wales.

I am in favour of this in principle - and will try to make any suggested date - though The Boy takes up a lot of my time at the moment.

Also, did you guys know that Metafilter's own armoured-ant is playing Night & Day this very friday night? I will be there.

Marble on Thomas St. can be pokey, but also the friday/saturday night means everywhere will be packed. At least the Marble allows you to hear each other, and drink your way around Europe without moving. Also, cheese.

As long as it's not Wetherspoons or one of those awful places in the area, I'm cool.

Jofus, I'll ask big bob if he can make some kind of child management bot to support your weekend enterprise.

The next few weekends are looking pretty full, but if I can make it, I'll be there.

29th is bad for me there is a sinfonia concert, but any other saturday should work. I am only an hour away by train, so don't have to cope with Handee's 4 hour trek.

I'd love to try and make it over there, but these next few weekends are looking rough for me as well.

Looking at specific dates: Feb 4th or (ideally) 5th are pretty much the only days I'm going to be able to make. How would that work for everyone?

4th or 5th would be fine for me.

So is this dead in the water then? Or is it just a case of too many scheduling conflicts - maybe we need to consider other dates?

Don't know I am still free most saturdays and could easily make it for a lunchy meetup somewhere. I have heard great things about a burrito place in Mancunia land where they make their own mole sauce. I think it was in the leeds meetup thread. It is easy enough for me to hop on a train as they leave every 30 minutes or less and are fairly reliable.

Smells like Panchos, koolkat, who I will freely shill for endlessly.

So we blew the 5th, maybe later this month would make some sense? March is just horrific for me.

Yeah sounds good. Any stop over in Manchester will have to include a brief stop in at Panchos either before or after the meetup. I am guessing most people wouldn't mind.
