Sun October 16 at 11:00 AM, Centennial Park (see link in post for the picnic location)
Grand Dr, Centennial Park NSW 2021, Australia (Map & Directions)
Some crumpets and pimms in the park!
Good way to enjoy the new spring weather in natural environs. I propose we meet by the Grand Drive.

I've very grateful for the support of Sydney Metafilters during my sudden operation, so wanted a chance to hang out with you all. It's also my last weekend in Sydney!

Here's the proposed park location.

I'm glad you came through the operation ok, and I am totally up for an excuse for a picnic. I will bring rose and quiche.

I have a show at 5, but call time isn't until 3:30, so I can actually make this!

But I won't be able to drink the boozes. Sadface.

Glad to hear you're OK, pando.

Smoke why you always have excuses

How many daughters birthdays can you have?

Yay, functional joints! I'm in.

Is someone bringing functional joints? I don't think that's legal here yet.

I mean....I do qualify for smokes on medical grounds

Pando, I missed your saga on Ask, which is a shame as I had a somewhat similar though less serious experience breaking my foot while in the UK and pregnant (yeah!)..Glad it worked out ok. We can trade tales of foreign country health systems :)

I may bring 1-2 small people and *maybe* a spouse.

Umm... I am still thinking about those insanely delicious vanilla scones that lollusc made for a meetup a few years ago. I will try to make them myself. Or I'll just buy some stuff on the way..

We'll be there. Two lovely pleasant people and two crazed lunatics; we'll see who is who on the day.

Hell, if y'all get drunk enough, you can always come see my Brechtian sadist anti-capitalist theatrical rant at Newtown at 5.

Well, I only have 2 daughters, but the plethora of invites from other children is the driver of most celebrations!

It's true I do often have excuses. Honestly, between wrangling the kids (3 and 5) with swimming lessons, etc, doing mountains of washing, cooking for the week, attempting (usually in vain) do to some kind of pathetic household maintenance (of which, bless this house and its post-apocalyptic yard, there is a never ending stream) or animal husbandry for cats/fish/chickens, and random family commitments, a weekend just seems so... short. And if I miss washing or cooking, doing it during the week sucks.

My wife doesn't seem to struggle with this as much as me, I think through a combination of letting things go better, being able to work from home regularly and recovering better. I guess I lack a little resilience to be honest.

I really like seeing mefites and count you as good friends! I definitely want to catch up before the end of the year.

Smoke and I often work in the same building and in the last year and a half, I have seen him once, and then only from a distance as he literally sped away from me in a glass elevator. He is everywhere and nowhere. He is the night.

I'll probably be able to make it.

Is the location link supposed to be the exact spot in the park to meet?

Centennial Park is a very big place to be asking random people "are you friends of Jessamyn?"

Awww, this makes me want to pat you on the head and pour you a stiff drink all at once.

Aside from animal husbandry, this is verrrry familiar.

D'oh! I'm an idiot, and I have double booked myself for tomorrow.

I must decline, as I have committed myself to be a racism consultant for a friend. He's doing a live read of his new movie script, which I gather is about racism in Australia, and he booked me weeks ago. Misfish is still coming though.

UbuRoivas, yes that is the spot :) We will probably not be directly on the road, but hoping to have it a little further towards the lake. But you should us :)

I'm on my way but I stupidly thought it was 11:30 instead of 11 and also my bus is late so god knows when I'll actually get there. Save me some Pimms!

I'm glad you guys had a good time, and I'm sorry I missed you.

I spent the morning reading the role of a particularly stupid white supremacist, and the evening playing a drunk, abused, mentally deranged asylum seeker/clown locked in a cage, so I also had a lovely time.
