A bunch of MeFites are going to be at XOXO this year. Let's meet up at the Green Dragon while we're all in Portland! All are welcome – even if you're not going to be at XOXO.

Gah, if only I had been able to register in time. But if you want to meet up not at the festival, that's a possibility.

It'll be my first time in Portland, so I'd gladly take the opportunity to meet more MeFites and explore more of the city.

Yesssssssss, XOXO! I'm 100% for a meetup; mefites I've never met or haven't seen in a while coming to town is one of the best little bonuses of this thing.

We should definitely plan to do something not-inside-the-festival, in any case; getting together somewhere in the general vicinity whenever works well for folks seems like the best way to go based on past experiences.

I don't think there's a proper schedule out yet, but in past years the first day has started with a big fest-goers-only party in the evening (with folks lining up in the big long line to get their passes at like 7 or 8-ish I think), so planning something earlier in the afternoon could work well there timing-wise.

Beyond that, there's generally an afternoon gap each day between the end of Conference talks and before the start of the various Festival events, so that could work as well.

I'll be at XOXO and I'm a mefite! Count me in.

Hell yes! Count me in. First time in Portland as well.

Also I'm all for something not-on-the-festival as well. Maybe a day before or something.

I'll be there, and open to meeting up. I haven't been to Portland since 2009, and am excited to be back!

I won't be at XOXO, but I am XO-adjacent and enjoy meetups!

Would love to help plan a thing for XOXO-and-adjacent folks! Anybody arriving the day before / leaving the day after so we can all pre-game or post-show together? Anybody like me have a Festival-Only pass and anticipate some time during the daytimes? Would it make sense to have a #mefi channel in the XOXO slack?

There's already a #mefi channel in the XOXO Slack :-)

Also, since I've never been to Portland, I should probably let others suggest a time/location. I just swapped my travel plans around to arrive on 9/7 (via Seattle/Amtrak, which I'm weirdly excited about!), and will be in PDX through Monday.

Apart from the festival and obligatory new-city sightseeing, my schedule's pretty much wide-open.

I didn't manage to get tickets, but I would love to do XOXO-adjacent stuffies with other mefites.

Here's a concrete proposal:

Thursday, 4pm-7pm, Green Dragon, which is a few blocks walk from the party and registration stuff outside Revolution Hall, before the opening party.

Gives us a few hours to sit and say hello, catch up, have some beers and snacks, and then folks can however collectively-or-not wander over to the registration/party situation around 7 and let XOXO take over hosting duties.

Is there anybody who wants to attend, but can't make it on Thursday?
posted by schmod at 1:48 PM on August 30, 2016

I'd like to come and can't do Thursday, but that shouldn't be a determining factor if Thursday is best for most.

If you're just joining us, cortex's proposal is now the "official" plan. Can't wait to meet everyone on Thursday!

(And for anybody who can't make it Thursday, we can plan informally to hang out during the con too. I will probably wander over to Green Dragon on Friday anyway for the XOXO #podcast meetup, etc.)

I'm not there for xoxo but I'll be in Portland for about 6 hours on Thursday and this fits in perfectly.

Well, I've just moved here, so I'ma show up, too!

Dang it, I can't make it! cortex, you gotta whuffle all these out-of-towners for me, especially heeeraldo.

I will provide whuffle on an egalitarian, as-needed basis to whatever extent I am able. Also, yow, Mulp in PDX!

You are welcome! Great to meet you all!

Worth it all to see the look on cortex's face when KTamas handed him the freshly-printed portrait ...

This was super fun, let's do it again. Preferably when I am in Portland again which I do not know when will happen again but I will do my best.
