Boda Borg, anyone?

Mon May 30 at 1:30 PM, Boda Borg
90 Pleasant St, Malden, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
I'll be in Boston this weekend, visiting with my boyfriend, and we'd like to do Boda Borg, but with just the two of us, we're one short of the minimum team number (3-5 people per team). Is anyone interested and available? We could do Sunday or Monday, whichever works better. *Edit: Confirmed for Monday, May 31 at 1:30*
We're sufficiently skilled at puzzles and gaming that we can put in a good effort, but we're going to check it out, not to try to win it all. So I think we can contribute to an experienced team, but we're definitely up to go with other first-timers. Multiple teams would be awesome, if enough folks are into it.

I think I'd probably be interested as well! Always wanted to check it out. Monday works better for me if possible

Ha, I'm actually going to Boda Borg this weekend with my husband and two others (we'll be there Sunday). Would love to have gone with you guys, but another time for sure.

My wife and I have been looking for an excuse to go. Monday works best for us. Haven't ever been to Boda Borg, but we've successfully completed a couple of the Escape The Room puzzles and we're generally pretty good at these types of things. I'm recovering from a badly broken arm (happened a year and a half ago, but still have some strengthening to do), so might not be able to do the more physical puzzles.

I've got dodgy knees and really need to not risk injury this weekend, so I am not into serious physical puzzles either. An acquaintance who's gone said she didn't really see much of a difference among the puzzles physically, so either the level of activity isn't that intense, or she managed to find plenty to do without encountering any particularly physical puzzles.

Sounds like there's a burgeoning consensus for Monday, which works well for us, but I'll give it a bit more time before confirming.

I had no idea this existed. It looks fun. I'm not going to be around this weekend, but I'll definitely put this on my "Things to do" Wunderlist. Thanks!

Okay, so Monday looks best for everyone who's interested so far - what time? I was thinking 1:30 or 2:00, to let folks make other lunch or dinner plans, if needed.

Reservations are recommended, and their are two tiers - 2 hours for $18 and unlimited for $28 (per person, and reservations are made on an individual basis, no need to reserve as a team). We're inclined to the unlimited (although wrapping up after 4-5 hours), but flexible. There are plenty of slots for Monday afternoon at the moment, but apparently they tend to fill up quickly the day before and day of, so it's good to get in earlier.

Unlimited starting around 1:30-2 sounds good to me!

Cool, confirmed for 1:30 on Monday. I'll update the thread to let folks know how to find us on Monday. It would be great if folks who reserve can confirm to let us know who and how many people to look out for. Looking forward to it!

Trying to figure out if we can still go. Something might have come up that we can't change. If the two of us come will that still just be one team?
posted by msbrauer at 10:37 AM on May 27, 2016

If everybody who expressed interest shows up, we'd have 2 teams of three. Any less than that is one team.

Looks like we can't make it. Have to go to New Hampshire on Monday morning and I doubt we can get back in time.

Sorry to hear that! Hope we get a chance to meetup another time.

I'd like to come Monday! Is there still room on a team?

My roommate did this and recommended the unlimited.

(also I can likely provide a ride from Camberville)

Dammit, and I can't even blame it on jetlag this time. Thanks, maryr - fixed it.

I don't have a confirmed count, but I think we're at 4? Me+1, Henrietta Stackpole and you? And if threeants is still interested, that's a full team.
posted by EvaDestruction at 9:24 PM on May 27, 2016

And if anyone wants to join beyond that, we can reconfigure to two teams - we just have to meet the three-person minimum per team.

Hope so too. Sorry to drop out at the last minute.

No worries, life happens. Hope you and your wife get to go to Boda Berg in the near future.

Hey folks, if you haven't reserved, please do - we're getting ours now, and they're showing 6 slots left, which will soon be 4.
posted by EvaDestruction at 8:10 AM on May 28, 2016

I just tried to book, and it's showing fully booked for a few hours surrounding 1:30. I'm thinking I'm just going to show up anyway-- maybe they won't mind adding me if we're all part of the same group. I'm hopeful! Going to keep checking the site anyway.

Maryr and anyone else coming from around Somerville, want to carpool? I don't mind driving.

We just landed, once we get to the hotel we'll give Boda Borg a call and see if we can work something out for 1:30. Otherwise, we can go later in the day, if that works?
posted by EvaDestruction at 11:44 AM on May 28, 2016

We were able to get a reservation for 4 people at 1:30! (And threeants, if you want to try your luck and just come anyway, it might be feasible to get you in - worth a shot if you're up for it.)

We'll pay individually on site, so it would be good to arrive maybe 1:10 so we can find each other and deal with payment. There's a waiver that can be filled out ahead of time here.

Note on clothing that we got with the reservation confirmation: comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes are required, and given the forecast for Monday, the recommendation to bring an extra pair of appropriate shoes is relevant.

Yay! See you Monday!

Thank you EvaDestruction! I'm so glad that worked! Looking forward to seeing everybody at 1:20 ish on Monday :-)

I meant 1:10 ish, agree that makes sense!

You are looking for a tallish couple, both with short brownish hair. He's wearing gray pants, black shirt, and a gray hoodie, I'm wearing purple pants, black shirt and a black Neko Case hoodie (this one).

You guys are going to have such a blast - we spent the whole day at Boda Borg and couldn't get enough.

Those with dodgy knees should really avoid the Step Up quest though - it's exactly what it sounds like and would be awful if you have bad knees. But you can take a look for yourself - the nice thing is it's easy to enter a quest and then nope out if you realize something is too difficult or intense.

Well, we originally were thinking we'd leave by dinner time, but we ended up getting dinner nearby and going back in until it closed at 10. So, pretty much what peacheater said!

Yeah, it was awesome. If I was going to have a workout plan, it would be that.
