British Arrows Awards at the Walker
posted December 6, 2015 7:22 PM   RSS | iCal | +googleCal

Tue December 29 at 5:00 PM, Walker Art Center
1750 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN, USA (Map & Directions)
Drinks/dinner and wacky British TV ads.
"This holiday season, the Walker carries on its 29-year tradition as host to the popular British Arrows Awards—an eclectic mix of riveting mini-dramas, outrageous wit, and awe-inspiring innovation. From high-tech extravaganzas to wacky British comedy, this celebration of commercial creativity brings people back year after year."

and, bonus: Pop-Up Pub!
"Get together for British fare, a signature cocktail from Prairie Organic Spirits, and more at Gather by D’Amico. Reservations are available Thursday–Saturday, 5–9 pm."

So, pub around 5:30 followed by the 7:00 screening?

(This runs the week after Xmas also if that works better for people than trying to cram one more thing into the holiday crunch...)

Awesome! I can make either date.

I can do Friday - Saturday I'm going to Star Wars. I can also do the week after if that works better for people. Yay! This is fun, thanks for planning it!

I don't mind either way, though I have been looking for an excuse to check out the Walker (if we do that I might arrive a few hours early just to look at the galleries).

Which meetup groups would those be?

Fyi, I saw sparklemotion tonight and she mentioned that the arrow awards often sell out early. Have we checked on ticket availability yet? Also, if we need reservations for the pop-up pub, we should probably check on those too. I vote for later December because I think it will be easier to get tickets then (though I could be wrong).

Tickets are still available for the 7 pm show on the 26th, but they do seem to be selling out quick (the 2, 3, 4, 5 pm shows are all sold out, as are all the shows on the 27th). If people are willing to do weekday evenings those are also available. The pop-up pub reservation thing is a little wonky on my end so I can't tell if they still have tables.

Looks like tickets are still available at 6 and 7 this Friday - never mind, 7 pm sold out as I was clicking through. Sorry for dropping the ball on this!

Early Saturday afternoon (2 pm) looks open, otherwise we might have to wait until after the holidays.

Saturday 2pm is also sold out now, only 4pm is available. (Or tomorrow at 2, 4, 5, and 6, but I assume that's unlikely.) What are people's constraints like for late December? I can do any day, but if weekdays will be difficult for other people then our only other option is the 26th at 7 or 8.

OK, how about the Monday after Xmas at 7:00?

Works for me!

All right! I ordered my ticket before any more screenings sell out. Post-Christmas seems like it will be less crowded.

Wow, I just bought the last available ticket.

Argh, sorry I missed the ticket rush. I can meet up with you guys ahead of the show if you're going to do the pub or something else? Not sure if you have reservations for anything but if you do, I will meet you!

I just got us a reservation for 3 at 5:30 pm. It'll be good to see you! Sorry you couldn't get tickets for the show -- I was going to ping you about it but then I saw that it sold out immediately after I bought my ticket.

The 2-6 pm Monday shows still have tickets, at least for the moment - so you (or anyone else out there) could maybe catch an earlier show and meet at the pub afterward? I don't know if already-purchased tickets can be exchanged for a different time.

I'll come and meet you guys and who knows, maybe a seat will open up. If not, it's no big deal - I've seen the arrow awards before. Thanks for making the reservation, acfol! Looking forward to seeing both of you!

I think I'll get there early afternoon on Monday and check out the galleries until dinnertime.

(By the way if anyone else out there wants to join in for the pub, please feel welcome! I can easily make the reservation bigger.)

Do you guys feel lucky about the projected 6-10" of snow Monday afternoon/evening? The 6pm Tuesday show still has space and tickets can be exchanged with 24-hour advance notice.

Good plan! Unfortunately the box office is about to close and Tuesday's show will probably sell out before they reopen in the morning. We could consider the $12 a sunk cost and just buy new tickets for Tuesday online, what do you think?

Also if we're doing Tuesday at 6pm, I can change the pub reservation to 5pm Tuesday to give us enough time for dinner.

I can do Tuesday too. Whatever works for everyone.
posted by triggerfinger at 3:38 PM on December 27, 2015

OK, ticket availability has dropped rapidly in the last hour so I'm just going to go ahead and buy tickets for all three of us.
posted by a car full of lions at 3:53 PM on December 27, 2015

Done. See you on Tuesday at 5 (not 5:30)! Don't buy tickets!

Thanks! Event updated for anyone playing along at home.

Is the pub reservation at 5 OK or should I move it to 5:30? I forgot that other people might not have winter break.
posted by a car full of lions at 7:12 PM on December 27, 2015

I can do 5 on Tuesday.
