Thu December 16 at 6:00 PM, Renaldis Pizza
2827 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
I think we should have a mid-month pizza meetup. That is all.
We'll continue to mix our pizza parties up This time: Renaldis Pizza in Lakeview!

Think oldschool Sinatra playin' checkered cloth cheap beer comfort pizza to send you off towards your oft-stressful Christmas (or whatever) celebrations with your oft-weird families and/or friends.

I could to the 16th. It's right before I leave for the weekend for insane Polish family Christmas, so some drinking and pizza would SO be welcome.

Listen. Listen to us. We have radio talents. Any attempt at putting us on the stage or screen would be disastrous.

On that note, I found a new application for my dusty old radio talents: When the Tommy Hilfiger commercial featuring Vampire Weekend's "Holiday" comes on, I do a voiceover like it was the Honda Holiday Sale commercial featuring Vampire Weekend's "Holiday." My fiancée, who pretty much has zero tolerance for this sort of thing, admitted it was pretty excellent, so clearly it is.

Around La Jolla or Del Mar.
posted by Iridic at 2:03 PM on December 7, 2010

Is he going to UCSD? I can't imagine why else someone would voluntarily move to La Jolla (which, incidentally, is NOT San Diego proper with all of it's glory, and instead is basically just like any other affluent suburb where you have to own a car in order to get anywhere).
posted by booknerd at 3:17 PM on December 7, 2010

ALL of San Diego requires you have a car. And very little of what's considered 'San Diego' is actually within the city limits. San Diego, like LA, is sort of this amorphous blob of suburbs/exurbs/city with ill-defined borders, and everyone considers themselves San Diegans-- it's not like midwest suburbs in that way. La Jolla is definitely considered part of San Diego, in my experience, although a much nicer part than most.

Del Mar I know very little about, as I grew up in the South Bay (Chula Vista area). It's a pain to get to most of SD from Del Mar, though, because it's up kinda far north and you have to go through the Merge of 805/5.

Also: I have never been to one of these so I'm curious as to username etiquette

I assume the scenario is one of the following:

1. red "hello my name is" sticker, accidentally worn on the train home
2. strict adherence to username-only forms of address with glares & shushing directed at violators
3. briefest possible acknowledgment that the internet is involved at all followed by introduction using real names
posted by theodolite at 6:12 PM on December 13, 2010

Ok, here is how it will go:

I will ask you what your name is. You will tell me your IRL name. I will then ask you what your real name is, waggling my eyebrows Groucho Marx-style. You will tell me your username. From there on, people will likely refer to you by your IRL name. Usernames seem to have stuck to only a couple of people, for whatever reason (misskaz, possibly SpiffyRob [I know I call him that]). There will be no "Hello, my name is" stickers unless you promise to write "Inigo Montoya" on it. We will all laugh like no one has ever made this joke before.

I will then make a fish pun. A really, really bad one.

I am very excited. I am also going to be arriving from an afternoon work holiday gathering so will have a bit of a head start on you folks. What that means is when you get there, start drinkin' or else I'm gonna look the fool.

Another work holiday party?

I was hoping to sneak in, but it's been a very, very bad week and I've given up on the dream. See y'all next year.

we'll miss you, eamon. Hope you & the lovely wife have a good holiday and better days soon.

Take care, buddy. Have a good holiday(s).

Because I am nothing but not a gentleman, I too, will rise to misskaz's challenge, and since I don't want to stay at work later than usual, I will head to a bar which maketh the strong cocktail on my way.

Happy holiday season indeed!

(My work holiday party has been re-scheduled from the day after my birthday (which would have sucked for a number of reasons) until January 7. I'm not sure if this is because we are trying so hard to make it not seem like a celebration of winter solstice and the Christ child's rescheduled birth or because it has become at the last minute a divisional (rather than a departmental) celebration. Either way, I'm not complaining because (a) more people invited to the party means more people not coming which means more money spent directly on those of us who bite the bullet and show up and (b) it's at Dave and Buster's and I've been told there will be company funds for gaming. Yay for work activities which are paid for by the company but actually don't have to involve your fellow employees!)

This pizza meetup is turning into something much more epic that I thought it was initially going to be. I was hoping maybe 5 or 6 people would be able to make it, tops.

Pizza! Pizza! Pizza! I'm doing a pizza dance.

You want to come gather down in the basement, misskaz? Specifically, with your coworkers and booze? It's kinda lonely down here. Also, dark.

I, too, am backing out, but your meetup will indeed be epic. Pizza brings it out in people. Have fun!

I'll probably be there a bit early, so find me. I'll have a ridiculously long scarf.

I will of course be late. Likely 6:30.

Oh damn, missed your invite, Bevo. Was at Purple Pig with my soon to be former boss and department-mates. On my way now on the 143 bus. Too full for pizza but yay beer!

I am on my way to this. I still have no idea how long it takes to get anywhere so I will also be late

Oh, for fuck's sake. I totally could've come tonight, live half a mile from Renaldi's... And totally forgot despite a working calendar app and following a couple of you on twitter.

I am the worst mefite. :(

Hey guys so it turns out a coworker of mine had some bourbon in his desk so I didn't have to drink Miller Lite all night so don't feel so bad for me after all okay thanks.
