Shakespeare on the Common on the 29th!

Wed July 29 at 8:00 PM, Boston Common
Boston Common, 139 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
Shakespeare on the Common is putting on performances of King Lear until August 9th, and one of them is on Wednesday the 29th at 8:00 PM. This is the IRL post for people interested in going to see that one!
Yes! Weeknights are better for me, too. First choices: 7/29, 8/3, 8/5, with some other dates maybe possible too. If it's the kind of thing where we'll hang out on a picnic blanket beforehand and eat stuff, I believe it's my turn to attempt THE RELISH or THE PICCALILLI or whatever it is. I think I need someone to link me to the recipe.

Sounds great -- what do you think about the food part? Is it a chutney kind of event?

Picnic/finger foods have done well for us in years past. We usually bring a bottle of wine, as well, which we have never gotten hassled about.

We'll bring some cheese and bread and other good stuff. I'm hoping to get there about 7:00 to get a good view.
If you haven't been before, the prime seating area is a picnic blanket-and-low-chairs-only zone. Taller camp chairs need to go way in the back, so don't bring those.

I made the chutney.
But that very first step? The one that says, "Roast peppers over gas stove, grill, or broiler until skins are completely charred"? Yeah, I messed that up by not waiting until my broiler was hot enough. So by the time they were completely charred, they were also exceedingly cooked-through. Slipping off those charred skins became an exercise in painstakingly coaxing skin and zillions of tiny seeds from fragile, slippery pepper flesh with sticky, charred-flake-coated fingers. It worked out with the bell peppers, but the hot fresnos had all but melted away inside their charred skins. So there, I was reduced to using a butter knife to scrape bits of fiery flesh off paper-thin, flaking, tearing skins. That whole time, the onions were cooking away, eventually on low as time stretched on. But! in the end, damned delicious, if I do say so myself. And very ready for pre-Shakespeare enjoyment.
So it would be really sad if it's just me and the chutney. C'mon, hit the Yes button!

(On non-preview, so happy to see it's not going to be just me and the chutney!)

Glad to hear there will be chutney! I'll bring snacks as well, though they won't be homemade. I'll try to get there around 7:30, but there's a home game at Fenway starting around that time, so I plan to arrive close to the start of the performance.

Here! Figured I was killing time at the office and I might as well be staking out a spot instead. Face the tan tech shed in front of the rotunda. Look left just across the brick path from it. I have a blue chair, a blue outfit, and a blue blanket (not planned! I hang out on the green!)... And a jar of chutney.

I'm here, I grabbed some space stage right, near the intersection of the paths. Might move if something more central opens up.
