Is anyone else running in the City to Surf this year? I don't know if I'm proposing a meet-up or just a general mutual online support thingo, but I thought it would be nice to compile a list of who's doing it. And maybe we could meet up briefly at the start to wish each other well, or even do a training run together a week or two before if we aren't all vastly different levels.
It's my first ever race, but I've run 14k before in training runs (on the flat, though), so my goal is just to finish without walking.

Yes I am running this one. Mutual online support sounds like a good plan.

My entire family is running or walking it. We should totes make RedThoughts and smoke do it too.

And yay Fiasco! How are you????!!

I am too broken and fat to run 14k, guys. I can barely do 2.5 right now.

Walking is doable though.

Taff mate I'm good. Making trouble. Running training. I am after the goal of 1hr 14 minutes which is what I did last time. I'm Fiasco and this is my story.

Yay, it's not just me!

Fiasco, I am super impressed. That is fast!

I'm going to win it. RedThoughts, sign up for yellow start and walk it with my little people and MrTaff and Steve's fam. I'll wait for y'all at the end. I'm in blue. Lollusc, which group you?

Also, Shonias might be convinced. As should misfish...

I'm pretty sure I picked yellow. I might have to walk bits of the hill, though I'm hoping not.

Smashed it like a gong on early 1990s Hey Hey. 1:05:38. Beautiful day for it too.

Wow! Yay you!
I did more like 2 hours, but I jogged the whole thing including all the hills, which is all I was aiming for. It was equal parts fun (scenery, mood of the crowd) and horrifying (all those people! So many people! As well as the water stops, they need strategic doonas on the side of the road for introverts to spend a little quality time under.)

Did you have a swim at the end? That was the best part.

I won it. Well, we drank a few beers during and champers at the end. My running bud had a herniated disc so we weren't allowed to run. Such a shame. Both my little monsters walked it to completion, and earned the totally ugly, shitty medal. What a crock this year's is!!!!

(They swam. I drank. )

Also-fark Fiasco, you're amazing.

And woo hoo Lollusc. That's a great time. You rock.

Haha yeah the medal really is shit isn't it

Drinking beer instead is totally winning it.

(There was a guy walking really slowly that I passed at about 3km in, who had a t-shirt which he'd written on the back: "Will probably fucking win it, aye." He was awesome.)

I nearly joined the beer brigade because I had a chest cold the last two weeks and my running "coach", I.e. colleague who shouts a lot while our group does laps of the field at work, forbid me to run. But I did it anyway, because I'm an idiot.

Very disappointed in the medal. But someone was giving away free roast chicken at Bondi junction, so that made up for it.

Oh and tell your kids they are amazing, Taff. At their age I would have sat down about 2km and cried to go home.

Um. They did that too, Lollusc.

Sadly I had started in the blue group and was bar crawling and not contactable. We finished 15 minutes ahead of my family. Coffee + beer = urgent wee. Many.

Yeah I've heard that giving kids coffee and beer makes them wee a lot. Maybe next time they should just have the beer.

I thought shots might be better. Smaller volume, faster to drink, not so heavy for small hands and no ice to listen to them crunch.

Congrats to you all, fine young tall athletes the lot of you.

You are like some sort of mothering genius, Taff. They should give awards for that level of thoughtfulness.
