Sat May 30 at 7:00 PM, Doolin's Irish Pub
654 Nelson Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 6K4, Canada (Map & Directions)
The west coast beckons. Anyone up for a meetup in Vancouver the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June? ETA: Okay, I am pitching Doolin's at Granville and Nelson. 30 May. Are there negative votes?

If I'm in town, I'd love to, but it's too early to know for sure.

This lurker would be up to meet some strangers.

Can we say Friday May 29th? I am agnostic as to venue. A previous meet-up was at the Alibi Room and I enjoyed that, but anywhere else is under consideration. I will be staying downtown sans wheels so somewhere west of Mann and north of False Creek would be my preference.

West of MAIN, for for those of you puzzledly scanning maps.

I am, historically, a huge fan of Mefi meetups. So I'm definitely in.

What I did want to propose though, and hear me out here, someone we know just got a job with a company with offices in Vancouver. Which means he has to be in town for periods of time according to his Twitter feed. It'd be great if the meetup coincided with the said person's time in Vancouver...

He mentioned in the podcast that he'd have to travel to their San Francisco office somewhat regularly, but didn't mention Vancouver unfortunately.

I propose Doolin's as a venue.

Doolin's on a Friday can get quite busy quite early based on my observations of walking by there with a stroller every day at like 5:30, but it might be worth a shot

I feel any place will be pretty busy on a Friday evening in late spring, but I am feeling out the landscape based on my vantage point 3500 km away. I am happy to hear alternate suggestions.

Well I am in that neighbourhood but whether or not I can make it depends on my wife's work hours that day, so it's a wait and see for me.

A change has come into my circumstances; I have to meet up with a friend of mine while in town, but his work schedule is unforgiving, so Friday is the optimum time for him. I may bump the suggested date for the meetup to Saturday evening (or if Saturdays are a no-go for too many, possibly the following Friday).

I have lurked this site since the neolithic (or 2008, as the older folk know it). It's time I confronted my introversion and faced a few of the highly opinionated, yet seemingly kind people that populate the internet neighborhood pub that I've called my home for the past seven years.

If it's going to be a Fri/Sat I'd suggest finding somewhere that takes reservations ahead of time, which some bars/breweries in Vancouver do - Main St brewery has long tables that could work well, for instance.

I am entirely open to suggestions for venue.

They do take reservations at Doolin's, but only until 7:00. I have adjusted our booking to then.

There is something so Vancouver about "4 attending, 14 maybes".

I'm going to be a gametime decision, too. Let's make it 15 maybes

It may be a Canadian thing. I have at least once attended a meetup abroad where there were no maybes and the number of declared attendees matched the faces around the table precisely. I was very impressed by that level of commitment.

Hey,

See some of you tonight. The reservation will, as tradition requires, be under Matt's Birthday Party.

Table to your left as you come in, by the big open window facing Nelson.
